Plan the perfect France trip with this 10-day France itinerary featuring Paris highlights, Bordeaux wine tours, and Aix-en-Provence travel tips, hotels, and must-see experiences.

Couple along the Seine River with the Eiffel Tower in the background

I had the incredible opportunity to visit France with my husband, Steve, and it felt like a dream! We even met up with family in Paris for part of the trip, which made it even more special. My husband and I try to plan a bigger trip once a year together – we like to use that time to reconnect and see new places! Plus, I’ve discovered the only real way to get us both to unplug is to get us in a completely different time zone 😉

We love to travel in the Fall as the weather is typically cooler (we live in Florida and don’t need super hot vacations!) and the crowds are less.

We have been to France before, but it had been a few years. From the moment we arrived, France completely swept us off our feet. It may be because we were completely exhausted from the flight 😉 But….Between the charming streets of Paris, the vineyards of Bordeaux, and the relaxed beauty of Provence, this trip had the perfect balance of exploration, incredible food and wine, and time to simply slow down and enjoy where we were.

If you’re planning a trip to France, this itinerary is truly one of the best ways to experience multiple regions without feeling rushed. I’m sharing everything – from where we stayed to what we ate, plus tips we learned along the way – so you can plan your own unforgettable France vacation.

2 Day Paris Itinerary: The Perfect Start to Our 10-Day France Trip

Our flight arrived in Paris around 9 AM, and like many international arrivals, our hotel room wasn’t ready yet. Instead of rushing, we embraced that first jet-lagged morning the best way possible – with cappuccinos and a long walk.

There’s something so magical about those first moments in Paris. The architecture, the cafés, the energy…it all feels like stepping into a movie. We wandered through the gardens near the Louvre, taking our time and easing into the rhythm of the city before heading to our hotel.

Paris hotel stay in walkable location near major attractions

Where We Stayed in Paris

We stayed at Hôtel Edouard 7, located just steps from the Opéra Garnier in one of the most walkable areas of the city.

What I really loved about this hotel is how it blends classic Parisian charm with modern comfort. The building itself has history, it was once the residence of King Edward VII! And you can feel that elegance throughout the property. At the same time, the rooms are updated, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, which is exactly what you want after long days of exploring. We opted for an upgrade where we had a little balcony – was it worth it? Not 100% sure, but we enjoyed it.

The location was one of the biggest highlights. We were able to walk to so many major Paris attractions, pop into cafés for a quick espresso, and easily head out for dinner or drinks without needing transportation. Plus, since we ate our fair share of pastries, I was pretty happy to get my steps in.

They also offer a beautiful breakfast service and have a cozy bar area, which is perfect if you want to unwind with a cocktail after a full day in the city.

We checked in once our room was ready and, in true travel fashion, immediately took a much-needed three-hour nap before heading back out into Paris.

Couples getting ready for Crazy Horse Paris cabaret show with artistic lighting and dance performance

An Iconic Night at Crazy Horse

To kick off our first evening in Paris, we met up with my brother and sister-in-law and headed to the Crazy Horse Saloon to see their iconic show, Totally Crazy.

Seeing a show at the Crazy Horse Saloon was one of the most unique and memorable experiences we had in Paris. We saw it the last time we were in Paris too!

Unlike other cabarets, Crazy Horse is known for its artistic approach to performance, blending dance, lighting, and visual effects in a way that feels more like a theatrical production than a traditional show.

Totally Crazy show at Crazy Horse Paris stage performance

The choreography is precise, the lighting design is incredible, and each segment feels like its own creative story. It’s bold and definitely a bit edgy, but also very elegant and tastefully done.

If you’re looking for unique things to do in Paris at night beyond the typical tourist attractions, this is absolutely worth adding to your Paris itinerary.

Notre Dame in Paris
Notre Dame in Paris

Montmartre & Sacré-Cœur Basilica

On our second day, we originally planned to visit Notre Dame, but the weekend crowds were overwhelming. Instead, we shifted gears and explored Montmartre and honestly, it’s one of our favorite parts of Paris.

Sacré-Cœur Basilica view overlooking Paris skyline
Sacré-Cœur Basilica

Montmartre feels like its own little village inside the city. Artists paint in the squares, cobblestone streets wind uphill, and cafés spill out onto sidewalks.

Men posing on Montmartre Paris cobblestone streets with artists and cafés

At the top sits Sacré-Cœur Basilica, where you’re rewarded with sweeping panoramic views of Paris. It’s peaceful, scenic, and absolutely worth the climb. This is probably one of my favorite pictures from our time in Paris….We convinced my husband and his brother to pose like they were trying to be someone fancy…Made us girls laugh, but I have to admit, they look pretty good 🙂

Cocktails at Little Red Door

After shopping and walking around and before seeing the Eiffel Tower sparkle, we headed to Little Red Door – it was a super small and cool bar that served up completely unique cocktails.

This isn’t your typical cocktail bar. The menu is incredibly creative and often conceptual, with drinks inspired by ideas, ingredients, or even emotions. If you’re feeling adventurous, I highly recommend doing the tasting experience like we did.

Each cocktail was beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted, and the staff does a great job explaining the inspiration behind each drink. It felt less like just grabbing a cocktail and more like being part of a curated experience.

Eiffel Tower sparkling at night in Paris with city lights

Eiffel Tower Evenings + Seine River Dining Experience

We made our way to see it light up at night, and it truly never gets old. Every evening, once the sun goes down, the Eiffel Tower sparkles for 5 minutes at the top of every hour until about 1:00 AM. It’s one of those simple but unforgettable Paris moments that feels almost surreal when you see it in person.

There’s something special about not rushing this part. We didn’t just stop for photos – we stayed, walked, and explored the surrounding riverfront area. We found a place to eat on the Seine River and enjoyed the view, eats and cocktails.

There are plenty of riverside cafés and restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy the view. Whether you’re grabbing a glass of wine, enjoying a long French dinner, or just stopping for dessert, it’s one of the most relaxing ways to experience the city. Plus, you really can’t beat the view!

Be ready to get your steps in! Even without walking thru the Notre Dame Cathedral, we got in over 23,000 steps!

Travel Tip: Best Eiffel Tower Experience

If you want the best Eiffel Tower experience:

  • Plan to arrive about 30–60 minutes before sunset
  • Stay through at least one full sparkle cycle (or two!)
  • Walk along the Seine afterward instead of rushing away

It’s one of those moments that doesn’t need a strict plan…just time, comfortable shoes, and a willingness to wander.

And just like that, our Paris portion of this France itinerary came to a close, setting the stage for the next chapter: wine country.

For a closer look at our trip, I’ve shared some of our favorite moments on Instagram – swipe through our Highlight or check out these posts: [post 1], [post 2], [post 3].

Paris to Bordeaux: A Scenic Train Journey

One of the easiest and most enjoyable parts of traveling through France is the high-speed train system. Our journey from Paris to Bordeaux took about three hours and was smooth, scenic, and incredibly relaxing.

We watched the city fade into countryside vineyards, rolling farmland, and small French towns. It was the perfect transition from Parisian energy to wine country calm.

The train ride took about 3 hours, so when we arrived, we were ready to stretch our legs. We checked into the hotel and then walked around to explore the city, and went out to dinner.

4 Day Bordeaux Itinerary: Wine, Culture & Food Experiences

If you’re building a France itinerary for wine lovers, Bordeaux is an absolute must.

This region is world-famous for its wines, but the city itself is just as amazing, with elegant architecture, incredible dining, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.

Where We Stayed in Bordeaux

We stayed at Le Palais Gallien Hôtel & Spa, and this hotel felt like a hidden gem.

It’s a boutique luxury property with only a small number of rooms, which gives it a very private, peaceful feel. Our room was a nice size and even had a jacuzzi tub, which made it feel like a little retreat within the city.

The design throughout the hotel is modern and elegant, and the service was exceptional. It’s the kind of place where you feel taken care of from the moment you arrive.

Another big plus is the location – you’re close enough to walk to the historic center, restaurants, and shops, but just far enough away that it feels quiet and relaxing at night. We could walk just about everywhere or get to the public transit to get us to anywhere else!

La Cité du Vin Bordeaux modern wine museum exterior
La Cité du Vin

Visiting La Cité du Vin (Bordeaux Wine Museum)

On our 1st full day in Bordeaux, we visited the wine museum, Cite du Vin. I highly recommend a visit here. There was so much to see and so much to learn! If you love wine even a little bit, this is a must-do.

This isn’t your typical museum. It’s a fully immersive, interactive experience dedicated to wine culture from around the world – not just Bordeaux. The building itself is stunning and modern, designed to resemble wine swirling in a glass, and it immediately sets the tone for what’s inside.

We had an immersive tasting with a tour guide, explored the museum, and enjoyed an amazing lunch with delicious food on the top floor of the museum. After lunch, we had our immersive tasting experience that included 4 wines that corresponded to the seasons, and it was amazing.

We walked through the entire museum, which I highly recommend, note that there are different tiers of tickets, so make sure that you get the ones that include the whole museum. We finished our museum trip with another tasting on the top floor with fantastic views!

We spent hours exploring the exhibits, and honestly, we could have stayed even longer. There are over 20 different themed areas, and everything is incredibly engaging. You’ll find:

  • Interactive displays where you can “travel” through global wine regions
  • Sensory experiences that help you better understand aromas and flavors
  • Short films and storytelling about the history of wine across different cultures
  • Fun, hands-on exhibits that make learning about wine approachable and not intimidating

It’s one of those places where whether you’re a wine beginner or a total enthusiast, you’ll walk away having learned something new.

Le 7 Restaurant Bordeaux rooftop dining with river views

Lunch with a View – Le 7 Restaurant

One of the most memorable parts of our visit was lunch at Le 7 Restaurant, located on the top floor of the museum.

The views alone are worth it—you get panoramic scenery overlooking the Garonne River and the city of Bordeaux, which makes for such a relaxing break in the middle of exploring.

The menu focuses on seasonal, locally inspired dishes, and everything we had was fresh, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully paired. It felt like a true dining experience, not just a quick stop.

Wine Tasting Experience

After lunch, we participated in a guided tasting experience that was truly unique. Instead of just sampling wines, the tasting was built around the seasons – each wine representing a different time of year.

It was such a creative way to explore flavor profiles and really made you think differently about wine. The guide walked us through each selection, explaining the origins, tasting notes, and what made each one special.

panoramic views from La Cité du Vin

At the very end of your visit, your ticket also includes access to the Belvedere (the top floor wine bar), where you can enjoy a glass of wine while taking in those incredible 360° views. It’s the perfect way to wrap up your experience.

Tips for Visiting La Cité du Vin

  • Book your tickets in advance, especially during busy travel seasons
  • Allow at least 2–3 hours (you’ll want the time!)
  • Upgrade your ticket if possible to include tastings and full access
  • Don’t skip the Belvedere—the views + wine combo is unbeatable
  • Plan lunch at Le 7 if you want a more elevated experience

Nepresso Store in Bordeaux

After we left the museum, we walked around the city and found a huge Nespresso store. We had to go in and take some pictures for my daughter, Sadie. And, of course, we had to buy her some coffees!

Historic Church in Bordeaux

We also found a beautiful church to walk through and discovered they were having a light show 2 nights later.

We bought tickets, and I am so glad we did. It was amazing! More on that soon, be sure to scroll down 🙂

That night, for dinner, we found a cozy spot in the hotel and feasted on cheese, snacks, and wine.

Gastronome Bordeaux Cooking Class & Food Tour

Cooking Class with The Gastronome Bordeaux

On our third day in Bordeaux, we had a phenomenal cooking class with The Gastronome. I really love taking cooking classes from a local anytime we can when we travel. You can learn so much about the food, culture, and community of wherever you are visiting this way.

Marché des Capucins Bordeaux local market with fresh produce and cheese

We started our class by heading to the Marchés des Capucins, a local market, for ingredients.  We picked out ingredients like fresh figs, vegetables, duck, and cheeses- everything we would later use in our cooking class. It made the experience feel even more connected and meaningful.

This is one of Bordeaux’s largest and most well-known markets, often referred to as the “belly of Bordeaux.” It’s where locals shop, chefs source ingredients, and visitors can truly get a taste of everyday life in the city.

Marché des Capucins Bordeaux local market with fresh seafood

As we walked through the market, we saw stalls overflowing with fresh produce, local cheeses, seafood, meats, baked goods, and more. The energy is lively and bustling, and it’s the kind of place where you want to take your time, sample what you can, and soak it all in.

Menu of French cooking class in Bordeaux

Once we returned from the market, we planned our menu, which included beet salad, duck, cassoulet, and wine, of course! Cassoulet is similar to a casserole or slow-cooked stew, often made with duck or pork belly, and it tastes amazing!

Making cassoulet traditional French dish made with duck and beans

Cooking & Creating a French Meal

Back in the kitchen, we worked together to prepare a full French menu, including beet salad, duck, cassoulet and dessert.

hands-on cooking experience in Bordeaux with local ingredients

If you’ve never had cassoulet, it’s a rich, slow-cooked dish typically made with duck, beans, and sometimes pork. It’s hearty, comforting, and deeply rooted in French culinary tradition.

Chef at Cooking class at Gastronome Bordeaux

What I loved most about this experience was how approachable everything felt. Chef Daniel guided us step-by-step, sharing tips, techniques, and little insights that you wouldn’t get from a recipe alone.

Sharing the Meal

Once everything was prepared, we sat down together to enjoy the meal, and of course, it was paired with wine.

There’s something really special about sitting down to eat a meal that you helped create, especially in a place like Bordeaux. It felt relaxed, authentic, and incredibly rewarding.

Why You Should Do a Cooking Class in Bordeaux

If you’re planning a trip to Bordeaux, I can’t recommend this experience enough.

It’s not just about the food, it’s about:

  • Connecting with local culture
  • Learning traditions firsthand
  • Slowing down and being present

It ended up being one of the most memorable parts of our entire trip! Seriously, can’t recommend it enough!

Saint-Émilion Wine Tour: A Must-Do from Bordeaux

The next day was our wine tasting day with Elodie, and she was absolutely amazing!  She was so knowledgeable and friendly, and gave us tons of information about wineries and the history of St. Emilion.

Saint-Émilion village cobblestone streets and vineyards
In Saint-Émilion with Elodie

Spending a day in Saint-Émilion was truly wonderful and something we will remember forever!

This historic village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and once you arrive, it’s easy to see why. The town dates back over 2,000 years, with vineyards first planted by the Romans in the 2nd century. Later, Benedictine monks helped establish it as a center for winemaking, and today it’s one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world, especially known for its Merlot-based wines.

The town itself feels like stepping back in time. Cobblestone streets wind through charming stone buildings, and everywhere you look there are views of vineyards stretching across the countryside.

Château Guadet wine cellar with barrels in Saint-Émilion

Wine Tasting at Château Guadet

We visited Château Guadet, where we got a behind-the-scenes look at how the wine is produced, aged, and stored.

Château Guadet is a historic, family-owned estate right in the heart of the village.

What makes Château Guadet especially unique is that it’s considered a “garage wine” producer, meaning production is intentionally small and highly focused on quality. Everything is done with incredible attention to detail, from the vineyard to the cellar, and you can really taste that dedication in the wines.

Bordeaux wine tasting experience at family-owned vineyard

During our visit, we had the chance to walk through the cellars and learn about the entire winemaking process, from fermentation to aging. The barrels, the stone walls, the atmosphere—it all felt so authentic and rooted in tradition.

Of course, the experience ended with a tasting, and the wines were absolutely beautiful, rich, balanced, and exactly what you hope for when visiting Saint-Émilion. It gave us such a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind every bottle.

One of the highlights was learning a traditional wine opening technique (always fun to bring home a new skill!), followed by a tasting that really showcased the depth and complexity of wines from this region.

Lunch + Wine Pairing Experience

After our tasting, we enjoyed a beautiful lunch featuring fresh oysters paired with wine from Château Figeac. Which was completely unexpected actually! We were sitting at lunch when the family next to us offered us their decanted wine. Elodie quickly accepted, and when the family left she gave us the story of the wine and the family – once in a lifetime experience and opportunity to sip!

There’s just something about sitting in wine country, enjoying fresh seafood and perfectly paired wine, that feels so quintessentially French. It was relaxed, delicious, and one of those meals you don’t forget.

Exploring the Village

After lunch, we spent time wandering through the village, popping into small shops, taking in the views, and exploring historic landmarks like the monolithic church carved directly into limestone.

It’s the kind of place where you don’t need a strict plan, just walking and discovering is part of the experience.

After Elodie dropped us back off at the hotel, we saw the town’s oldest coliseum in Bordeaux, then we went to that amazing lightshow at the church. We ended a fantastic day with JUNK smash burgers in bed. It was absolute perfection!

LUMINISCENCE Saint-André Cathedral in Bordeaux

Luminiscence in Bordeaux

This was an absolute MUST! If you happen to be walking around in Bordeaux ad see a sign for this in front of a church – buy tickets! The music was all in French, and even though our French was limited, we were awe-struck! It was one of the most beautiful things we have experienced – from the music to the carefully orchestrated lights. It was pure magic.

After soaking in the beauty and flavors of Bordeaux, it was time to slow things down even more as we headed south to Provence.

Aix-en-Provence tree-lined street with cafés and fountains

4 Day Aix-en-Provence Itinerary: Slow Travel in Southern France

Arriving in Aix-en-Provence felt like stepping into a completely different pace of life – in the best way possible.

The next day, we hopped on a plane to Aix-en-Provence, where we spent our next 3 nights. During our visit, we stayed at the Villa Galici hotel. The grounds and spa were absolutely gorgeous, breakfast was yummy, and the jacuzzi, sauna, and cold room were all free and fantastic.

The rooms were beautifully decorated, but I’ll be honest, they were a little much for our tastes. The staff put rose petals on our pillows each night, which was really nice. We spent one day here just relaxing, sipping wine, enjoying simple meals, and enjoying the pool terrace.

This is where your France itinerary shifts from exploration to more relaxation.

Cours Mirabeau Aix-en-Provence outdoor cafés and shaded boulevard

Exploring Aix-en-Provence

After the energy of Paris and the wine-filled days in Bordeaux, arriving in Aix-en-Provence felt like stepping into a completely different pace of life—in the best way possible.

Aix-en-Provence is known for its tree-lined streets, elegant architecture, and relaxed Provençal charm. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find locals lingering at outdoor cafés, markets filled with fresh produce and lavender, and fountains tucked into quiet squares.

We loved simply wandering the streets, taking in the soft colors of the buildings, and stopping whenever something caught our eye, which, in Aix-en-Provence, happens often.

The famous Cours Mirabeau is the heart of the city, lined with cafés and shaded by plane trees, making it the perfect place to sit, sip a glass of wine, and people-watch for a while.

It’s a city that invites you to slow down and honestly, that’s exactly what we needed at that point in the trip.

Villa Gallici Hotel and Spa Aix-en-Provence roses

Where We Stayed in Aix-en-Provence

We stayed at Villa Gallici Hotel & Spa, and while it may not have been exactly our personal decor style, it was still such a memorable stay.

A Historic Provençal Mansion with Timeless Charm

Villa Gallici isn’t just a hotel – it’s an experience rooted in history and design.

The property is set within an 18th-century Provençal bastide (country house), originally designed to reflect the elegance and charm of traditional southern French living.

What makes it especially interesting is that the hotel, as it exists today, was thoughtfully created by a group of visionaries who wanted to bring a true luxury country house experience to Aix-en-Provence – something that didn’t really exist at the time.

The result is something that feels both historic and intentionally designed, like a romanticized version of Provence brought to life.

From the moment you walk through the gates, it feels less like a hotel and more like a private estate tucked away from the world.

Villa Gallici Hotel and Spa Aix-en-Provence luxury garden estate

The Grounds: A Private Garden Escape in the Heart of Aix

One of the things that makes Villa Gallici so special is its setting. The hotel is surrounded by lush Italian-style gardens, filled with cypress trees, fragrant flowers, and quiet corners that feel made for lingering.

There’s a beautiful heated outdoor pool, shaded terraces, and hidden seating areas where you can sip wine, read a book, or simply enjoy the stillness. Even though you’re just a short walk from the center of Aix-en-Provence, it feels completely removed from the energy of the city—in the best way possible.

It’s that perfect balance of:

  • Close to everything
  • But peaceful enough to truly relax
romantic hotel room with antique decor in Aix-en-Provence

Rooms & Suites: Romantic, Elegant & Full of Character

The rooms at Villa Gallici are anything but standard.

There are just 23 rooms and suites, and each one is uniquely designed with:

  • Antique furnishings
  • Rich fabrics like velvet and damask
  • Canopy beds and ornate details
  • Marble bathrooms and curated décor

Many rooms open up to private terraces or garden views, which makes the entire experience feel even more intimate and personal. We loved sitting on our balcony and enjoying the view of the gardens!

Our room was beautifully decorated, almost like stepping into a romantic European painting. While it leaned a bit more ornate than our usual style, there’s no denying how special and thoughtfully designed everything felt.

And those little touches – like rose petals on the pillows each night – made it feel even more memorable.

Spa & Wellness: A True Relaxation Experience

The spa at Villa Gallici is another standout feature, and honestly, one of the reasons it’s such a perfect place to slow down during a France itinerary.

Set in a charming pavilion within the gardens, the spa offers:

  • Jacuzzi
  • Sauna
  • Cryotherapy (cold room)
  • Heated outdoor pool
  • Sothys luxury treatments

It’s designed to be a full sensory experience, combining relaxation with classic French wellness traditions.

We absolutely loved that so many of these amenities were included – it made it easy to truly unwind without feeling like you had to plan anything extra.

Dining at Villa Gallici: Provençal Flavors in an Elegant Setting

Villa Gallici is also home to its own gourmet restaurant, where the cuisine is inspired by the flavors of Provence and the Mediterranean.

Dining here feels like an experience in itself:

  • Candlelit tables
  • Beautiful terrace seating under the trees
  • Seasonal, locally inspired dishes

The chef focuses on creating refined dishes that highlight regional ingredients, giving you a true taste of Provence without ever leaving the property.

pool terrace at Villa Gallici with wine and garden views

The Overall Experience: Romantic, Peaceful & Perfect for Slowing Down

What makes Villa Gallici so special isn’t just one thing, it’s how everything comes together.

  • Quiet mornings with coffee on the terrace
  • Afternoons spent by the pool with a glass of wine
  • Feeling that you don’t need to go anywhere to enjoy your day

For us, it became the perfect place to pause after the energy of Paris and the activity of Bordeaux.

We spent one full day here doing exactly that – relaxing, sipping wine, enjoying simple meals, and soaking in the peaceful surroundings – and it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the trip.

Why Villa Gallici Is Worth It for Your France Itinerary

If you’re planning a Provence itinerary or looking for where to stay in Aix-en-Provence, Villa Gallici is ideal if you want:

  • A romantic, luxury boutique hotel
  • A peaceful retreat close to the city center
  • A stay that feels immersive and uniquely French
  • A place to truly slow down and enjoy the moment

It’s not just a place to sleep, it’s part of the experience.

Breakfast each morning was fresh and delicious, and the pool terrace quickly became our favorite spot to unwind with a glass of wine.

The staff also added thoughtful touches, which made the experience feel extra special.

Dinner at Les Caves Henri 4: A Historic & Unforgettable Dining Experience in Aix-en-Provence

We had the best meal of our whole trip in Aix en Provence at Les Caves Henri 4. We chose the chef-created meal, and every bite was delicious and memorable. We would highly recommend it!

Les Caves Henri IV Aix-en-Provence historic stone cellar restaurant

A Restaurant Steeped in History

Les Caves Henri IV isn’t just a restaurant – it’s a true piece of Aix-en-Provence history.

The space is set inside vaulted stone cellars dating all the way back to 1495, which immediately gives the entire experience a sense of intimacy and timelessness.

As soon as you walk in, you feel it.

The soft lighting, the curved stone ceilings, and the centuries-old architecture create a warm, almost romantic atmosphere that feels completely different from a traditional dining room. It’s quiet, cozy, and elegant without being overly formal—exactly the kind of place where you want to slow down and savor every moment.

It’s no surprise this spot has become something of an institution in Aix, loved by both locals and visitors looking for a truly authentic Provençal dining experience.

fine dining in Aix-en-Provence with tasting menu and wine pairing

The Culinary Vision: Seasonal, Elegant & Deeply French

The kitchen is led by Chef Thomas Roret, who focuses on refined French cuisine rooted in seasonal, local ingredients.

What I loved most is that the food feels elevated, but not overcomplicated.

Each dish is thoughtfully composed, beautifully plated, and highlights the natural flavors of the ingredients. You can really tell there’s a strong connection to the Provençal terroir, with dishes that feel both traditional and modern at the same time.

French gourmet dishes at Les Caves Henri IV tasting experience

Menu Options: From Simple Elegance to Full Tasting Experiences

One of the things that makes Les Caves Henri IV so appealing is that there are multiple ways to experience the menu, depending on how indulgent you’re feeling.

Here’s what you can typically expect:

  • 3-course seasonal menus – perfect for a refined but approachable dining experience
  • Multi-course tasting menus (5–7 courses) – designed to showcase the chef’s creativity and seasonal ingredients
  • À la carte options – allowing you to mix and match dishes
  • Wine pairings – featuring both local Provence wines and prestigious French selections

Menus change regularly (often every few weeks), ensuring everything is fresh, seasonal, and inspired by what’s available locally.

Pricing can vary depending on the experience, but generally:

  • Lunch menus are more approachable
  • Dinner tasting menus range from elevated to truly indulgent experiences

Some menus feature standout dishes like:

  • Delicately prepared seafood
  • Rich, slow-cooked meats
  • Creative vegetable-focused plates
  • Beautifully composed desserts that feel like edible art

And of course, the wine list is just as thoughtfully curated, with options that perfectly complement each course.

The Experience: Intimate, Memorable & Worth Slowing Down For

We chose the chef-created tasting menu, and from the very first course, we knew we were in for something special.

Each dish felt intentional. Each course built on the last.

And what really stood out was how unrushed the experience felt.

This isn’t a quick dinner—it’s the kind of place where you:

  • linger over each course
  • sip your wine slowly
  • and truly enjoy the moment

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service makes you feel like you’re being taken care of from start to finish.

Why Les Caves Henri 4 Is a Must-Visit in Aix-en-Provence

If you’re planning a trip to Provence and looking for where to eat in Aix-en-Provence, this is absolutely a restaurant to prioritize.

It’s not just about the food – it’s about:

  • Dining in a space that’s over 500 years old
  • Experiencing elevated French cuisine in an intimate setting
  • Enjoying a meal that feels both local and unforgettable

It’s one of those restaurants where you slow down, savor every bite, and leave already thinking about when you can come back.

Embracing the Slow Travel Lifestyle

One of the best decisions we made was to take a full day to simply relax, enjoying wine, simple meals, and the peaceful surroundings.

It was the perfect way to recharge before heading to Amsterdam. More on that soon!

Know Before You Go

A lot Restaurants Close Midday
Most restaurants in France close somewhere between 2 and 3 in the afternoon and don’t reopen until about 7 for dinner service. If you want to eat lunch, you will need to plan accordingly.  We missed lunch a few times, but there are plenty of markets where you can grab bread, cheese, and fruit for a snack.

Pack Comfortable Shoes
If you are anything like us, you will be doing a LOT of walking. Make sure you have comfortable shoes to wear while you are doing it!

Visit Notre Dame on a Weekday
The crowds at the Notre Dame Cathedral are absolutely crazy on the weekends.  Our tour guide even refunded our money and asked us to come another time. My brother and sister-in-law returned on Monday with no problems and no large crowds.

Expect Rain in Fall
Fall in France can be quite rainy. You need to carry an umbrella with you as you explore because you never know when a shower might pop up and surprise you.

Consider a Travel Agent
Planning a trip to France can seem a bit intimidating, especially for a long trip with multiple destinations like we had. We used the help of a travel agent, and they helped to coordinate everything from accommodations to sightseeing tours. I would highly recommend using one for trips like these.

FAQ: Planning a Trip to France

How many days do you need in France?
About 10 days is ideal for visiting multiple regions.

What’s the best way to travel between cities?
High-speed trains are easy and efficient. We did take a plane from Bordeaux to Aix-en-Provence, the train would have taken about 7 hours and the flight was under 2 hours.

Is Bordeaux worth visiting?
Absolutely – especially for wine lovers.

Do you need to speak French?
Not necessarily – English is widely spoken in tourist areas.

Final Thoughts

Steve and I had the most amazing time, and it was really wonderful to spend part of our trip with family too. There is still plenty we would love to see and do in France, so I am sure we will visit again!

Made with smooth Crown Royal Deluxe and classic lemonade poured over ice, this cocktail is incredibly easy to make and dangerously refreshing. It’s one of those drinks that feels perfect for summer tailgates, backyard BBQs, country music nights, and relaxing weekends with friends.

That’s it!

Sometimes the best cocktails are the easiest ones, and this one proves exactly that. The smooth vanilla and oak notes from Crown Royal Deluxe balance beautifully with the bright citrus flavor of lemonade, creating a drink that’s crisp, refreshing, and easy to sip all summer long.

Unlike heavier whisky cocktails, this one stays light and refreshing, making it ideal for warm weather and outdoor gatherings.

Crown Royal’s Smooth History

Crown Royal has been a staple in the whisky world since 1939. Originally crafted to celebrate the royal visit of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to Canada, Crown Royal quickly became known for its signature smoothness and iconic purple bag packaging.

Today, Crown Royal Deluxe remains one of the brand’s most popular blends thanks to its approachable flavor profile featuring hints of vanilla, caramel, light fruit, and oak. Those smooth flavors make it incredibly versatile for cocktails – especially simple mixed drinks like this Camo Crown Cooler.

Today I’m walking you through exactly how to make these easy ice cream sandwiches, along with tips, variations, and storage tricks.

And bonus… kids can help make them!

Frozen Cool Whip ice cream sandwiches with strawberries and chocolate chips on a white plate.

Why You’ll Love Frozen Cool Whip Sandwiches

  • Only a few ingredients needed
  • Takes just minutes to assemble
  • Freezer-ready and perfect for make-ahead treats
  • Light, creamy, and refreshing – lighter than traditional ice cream!
  • Easy to customize with different cookies, mix-ins, or toppings
  • Kid-friendly and budget-friendly

They remind me of my Homemade Ice Cream recipe – both are fun, no-stress desserts everyone loves during the warmer months.

Homemade Cool Whip ice cream sandwiches stacked with fresh strawberries in the background.

Ingredients You Need

This recipe keeps things beautifully simple:

  • Cool whip – or your favorite whipped topping
  • Graham crackers
  • Strawberries
  • Chocolate chips

That’s it! You’re just a few ingredients away from frozen dessert bliss.

Mixing creamy Cool Whip mixed with fresh strawberries for graham crackers to assemble frozen ice cream sandwiches.

How to Make Frozen Cool Whip Sandwiches

  1. Mix your filling – In a medium bowl, combine the Cool Whip and diced strawberries. Gently fold until everything is blended.
  2. Prep your graham crackers – Break each graham cracker sheet in half along the perforation.
  3. Add the filling – Spoon the strawberry Cool Whip mixture onto one graham cracker half.
  4. Sandwich it – Top with another graham cracker and press gently until the filling spreads slightly toward the edges.
  5. Smooth the edges – Use a butter knife or small spatula to even them out.
  6. Dip in chocolate chips – Roll or dip the sides of each sandwich into the mini chocolate chips.
  7. Freeze – Place the sandwiches onto a parchment-lined plate or dish and freeze for at least 4 hours.
  8. Optional: Wrap for grab-and-go – Once fully frozen, wrap each one individually in plastic wrap for easy single-serve treats.

They come out perfectly firm, creamy, and refreshing – like something you’d buy from an ice cream truck, but even better!

Cool whip ice cream sandwiches on parchment paper ready for the freezer.

Tips for the Best Ice Cream Sandwiches

Use very cold Cool Whip.

It keeps the texture fluffy and makes spreading easier.

Dice the strawberries small.

This helps them freeze evenly and gives every bite a little burst of berry flavor.

Don’t skip the freeze time.

Four hours is the minimum. Overnight is even better if you want cleaner edges and firmer sandwiches.

Use high-quality graham crackers.

The sturdier ones hold up better in the freezer.

Serve with milk!

These sandwiches are delicious with a cold glass of Florida Milk – creamy, refreshing, and the perfect balance to the sweet graham crackers and chocolate chips.

Dipping the edges of Cool Whip–filled graham cracker sandwiches into mini chocolate chips before freezing.

Ways Kids Can Help

Having kids help in the kitchen is not only a bonding opportunity, but it also gives them skills that will prepare them for the future. The kids can do just about every part of this easy dessert recipe!

  • Mixing the prepared strawberries and cool whip
  • Spreading the Cool Whip mixture onto the graham crackers
  • Rolling edges in toppings
  • Taste-testing – the most important job!

It’s fun, messy (in the best way), and keeps them excited about making and eating something they helped create.

These frozen Cool Whip sandwiches fit right in with my favorite Summer Recipes – light, fun, and perfect for backyard gatherings. Let’s make some, shall we?

How To Make The Perfect Aperol Spritz

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

Bring a taste of Italy home with this easy and refreshing Aperol Spritz recipe! Just three ingredients and a few tips for making this classic cocktail perfect every time.

How To Make The Perfect Aperol Spritz

Ok, well, the perfect Aperol Spritz is enjoyed while in Italy in my opinion. But, if that’s not in your cards today and you just want to sip on this popular cocktail, I got you!

First, let’s chat about what exactly an Aperol Spritz is.

An Aperol spritz cocktail is a light, refreshing cocktail that only takes three ingredients to make. It has a citrusy and slightly bitter flavor. It’s a great cocktail to serve before dinner, or at brunch. If you don’t like super sweet drinks, this is definitely one you should try, and it has a smaller alcohol content than other cocktails.

Why is the Aperol Spritz Popular

While the Aperol Spritz has been a beloved Italian tradition for over a century, its global explosion in popularity, especially in the U.S., U.K., and Australia, began in the early 2000s and skyrocketed in the 2010s.

Part of the Aperol Spritz’s charm is how it feels like summer in a glass. But it didn’t become a global favorite by accident. Back in the 2010s, the Campari Group (they own Aperol) kicked off a super smart marketing push. They teamed up with bars, restaurants, and events all over the world to make the Aperol Spritz the go-to drink for sunny days and stylish get-togethers. Think European flair, effortless vibes, and all-around good times.

And then, boom! Social media took it to the next level. That bright color? The giant wine glasses? The orange slice garnish? Total Instagram gold. Influencers and travelers started posting their Spritz moments from dreamy Italian cafés and swanky rooftop bars, and just like that, it became the drink of the summer (every summer).

My husband and I stayed at La Gemma when we were in Florence last and every outdoor patio bar in the area was always filled with kids (ok, maybe they weren’t kids, but they looked like them to us old peeps 😉 ) sipping their Aperol Spritz cocktails.

Another reason it’s stuck around? It’s light, refreshing, and super easy to sip, aka the perfect cocktail for brunch, happy hour, or any warm-weather hangout. As more people started reaching for lower-alcohol options, the Aperol Spritz totally fit the bill. It’s got flavor without being too strong, which makes it ideal when you’re in the mood for something chill but still a little fancy.

And because it’s so easy to make (just three ingredients!), bars and restaurants happily jumped on the trend. Fast forward to today, and the Aperol Spritz isn’t just a drink…it’s a vibe.

The Aperol spritz cocktail is easy to make with just three ingredients that you may already have in your liquor cabinet. To make one of these delicious cocktails you will need Aperol, sparkling wine, and club soda or unflavored sparkling water. We told you this was a simple cocktail. Just because it’s simple doesn’t mean that it skimps in the flavor department though. Aperol has a brilliant orange color and sweet citrus flavor with hints of vanilla and a slightly bitter undertone.  I used French Blue Cremant de Bordeaux Brut, it is like a thicker version of champagne, and it has a crisp citrus flavor. Club soda or unflavored sparkling water introduces more bubbles and a fizzy mouth feel that’s quite satisfying.

Making an Aperol spritz takes less than a minute, and you’ll have a refreshing drink in your hands or those of your guests in no time. Simply fill your wine glass with ice until it is nearly full, and pour equal amounts of Aperol and sparking wine over the top of your ice. Fill the remainder of the glass with club soda or sparkling water and garnish with an orange slice.

Aperol Spritz

Tips for the Best Aperol Spritz Experience

To truly enjoy an Aperol Spritz, it’s all about the details. Here are a few tips to make your cocktail taste just like it does in Italy:

Use plenty of ice – A well-chilled Aperol Spritz enhances the crisp, refreshing flavors.
Pick the right bubbles – While traditional recipes call for Prosecco, using French Blue Crémant de Bordeaux Brut gives it a richer texture.
Garnish with fresh orange – A slice of orange not only adds to the aesthetic but also enhances the drink’s natural citrus notes.

Experiment with ratios – Prefer a slightly less bitter taste? Adjust the balance by adding a bit more sparkling water for a lighter sip.

What is an Aperol Spritz

Don’t you just love the color and flavors of this classic cocktail? Many refer to the color as that of an Italian sunset and it certainly is beautiful.

But again, if given the opportunity, be sure to try this one when you are in Italy 😉 Italy is one of my favorite places in the world!

Alright, let’s make some cocktails, shall we?!

Athens and Crete: A 7-Day Family Travel Adventure Filled with Food, Culture, and Unforgettable Memories

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

Plan the perfect Athens and Crete itinerary with this three-generation Greece trip guide featuring travel tips, historic sites, incredible food, and island adventures.

White church in Santorini

Last spring I had the privilege of taking a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Greece with two of the most important people in my life – my mom and my daughter. Traveling to new places is always magical, but this three-generation trip to Greece was even more special.

We spent our time exploring Athens and the island of Crete, creating an unforgettable Athens and Crete itinerary filled with historic landmarks, incredible food, seaside villages, and meaningful moments together. From the Acropolis towering above Athens to sunset views over the Aegean Sea in Crete, every day brought new memories.

If you’re planning a family trip to Greece or looking for inspiration for an Athens and Crete travel itinerary, here’s everything we experienced – along with travel tips I learned along the way.

Three generation family trip in Athens Greece

Our Athens and Crete Itinerary: A Three-Generation Greece Adventure

For my daughter Sadie and me, our adventure started in Tampa where we hopped on a plane and flew to Boston to meet my mom, Marlene. From Boston we flew to Athens, Greece, and after an 8.5 hour flight and a 7-hour time difference we landed at 8 am local time ready to begin our adventure.

2 Days in Athens: History, Culture, and Incredible Views

Once we landed we headed to our hotel, the Fresh Hotel, which is part of the Marriott family, so we were able to use points for our two-night stay.

Fortunately one of our rooms was ready so we could change clothes and freshen up before heading out to explore the city.

Drinks on rooftop bar in Athens Greece

We started off with 10 am rooftop cocktails with an incredible view of the Acropolis. After a little time to relax we headed out to tour the city on a tuk tuk. A tuk tuk is similar to an electric golf cart and it’s the perfect way to tour Athens.

Our driver was a little crazy – and a ton of fun – and we got to see a lot during our three-hour tour. It was also a great way to get some fresh air and wake ourselves up after the long flight.

Holy Church of Saint Dionysius Athens Greece interior artwork

One of the stops on our tour of Athens was the Holy Church of Saint Dionysius, the oldest Christian church in Greece. On the exterior of the church there are gorgeous hand-carved wooden doors, but the artwork doesn’t stop there. Inside you’ll find stunning Byzantine-style frescoes, mosaics, stained glass windows, and more that will take your breath away with their beauty.

Changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Athens

After the church we watched the changing of the guards at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier. The monument is guarded by the Evzones, an elite unit of the Hellenic Army. The changing of the guards happens every hour, and on Sundays at 11 am there is a special ceremony with official costumes and a military band.

Olympic Stadium in Athens Greece

We also had the opportunity to see the original Olympic Stadium, which was really neat. The start of every Olympic Games still begins here with the ceremonial passing of the torch.

We visited Syntagma Square and the Hellenic Parliament building as well. Athens is considered to be the birthplace of democracy as we know it.

Woman having a cocktail on rooftop bar in Athens Greece

After our tour we decided to stretch our legs by walking through the town of Plaka and enjoying a late lunch before heading back to the hotel to unpack and enjoy a few more rooftop cocktails.

Visiting the Acropolis and Parthenon

We only had two days in Athens but we managed to pack a lot into them.

Construction on Acropolis in Athens Greece

The Parthenon Was Built to Honor Athena

The most famous structure on the Acropolis is the Parthenon, a magnificent temple dedicated to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war.

Construction of the Parthenon began in 447 BCE and was completed in 438 BCE, although decorative work continued for several years afterward.

Woman visiting the Acropolis in Athens Greece with the Erechtheion and Caryatid statues in the background

The Caryatid Statues Are Actually Columns

One of the most recognizable features of the Erechtheion is the Porch of the Caryatids —- the six elegant female statues that act as structural columns supporting the roof of the porch.

The statues you see on the Acropolis today are replicas, while the originals are preserved inside the Acropolis Museum to protect them from pollution and weather damage.

On our second day we visited the Acropolis and the Parthenon, one of the most famous historic landmarks in the world. The Parthenon is made completely of marble and, although it is constantly undergoing restoration work, about 85% of the original structure still stands today.

Visiting the Acropolis in Athens Greece

Did you know that the Acropolis is over 2,500 years old?

The Acropolis of Athens dates back to the 5th century BCE, during what is known as the Golden Age of Athens. Many of the famous buildings on the hill were constructed between 447 and 406 BCE, making them more than 2,400 years old.

Traveling in Athens Greece at the Acropolis with historic olive tree

The theater nearby is still in use today – in fact, musician Yanni performed a concert there a few years ago.

Exploring the Acropolis Athens Greece near the Erechtheion Temple

Today the Acropolis of Athens is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

It attracts millions of visitors each year who come to experience the incredible history and breathtaking views of Athens from the top of the hill.

Since the Acropolis is an extremely popular tourist destination, be prepared for crowds and lines, especially if you visit on a weekend.

The Acropolis Museum

When construction began on the Acropolis Museum, archaeologists realized there was an entire ancient village buried underneath the site.

Acropolis Museum glass floor ruins Athens Greece

Today the museum is built above the ruins with glass floors, allowing visitors to see the ancient structures beneath their feet while exploring the exhibits above. Not only can you learn about Ancient Greek civilization, you can also see how people once lived in this historic area.

A Greek Cooking Class in Athens

As part of our Athens adventure, I scheduled a cooking class with a local named Penelope through Traveling Spoon — an activity that I knew all three generations would enjoy.

Women at the fish market in Athens Greece

We met Penelope at her apartment before heading out to a local fish and meat market. Visiting local markets while traveling is one of my favorite things to do because you can experience so much culture just by seeing where locals shop for their daily ingredients. As you can see my mom and daughter were a little skeptical of all the fresh fish and meats everywhere 😉

Women with Greek Cooking Class Chef

After gathering everything we needed, we returned to her apartment to enjoy a glass of wine and prepare some amazing fresh seafood dishes. The beauty of these dishes is the simplicity. Fresh ingredients cooked simply. It was perfection, and the company was even better!

Greek cooking class in Athens preparing fresh shrimp

The cooking class was a wonderful experience for all of us. Sadie wasn’t a big fan of tearing the heads off our fresh shrimp, thankfully my mom didn’t mind that task!

Greek cooking class in Athens preparing fresh seafood

After our delicious homemade meal we ended the evening the same way we started the trip, back on the rooftop enjoying cocktails and a gorgeous sunset.

Grandma and Granddaughter in Athens Greece on Rooftop bar

One of my favorite parts of traveling is experiencing local cuisine, and Greek food is absolutely incredible. When we got home, I couldn’t wait to recreate some of our favorite dishes, like this Traditional Greek Moussaka recipe!

Exploring Crete: Beaches, Villages, and Local Experiences

After two busy days in Athens we took a short flight to Crete, Greece’s largest island.

Crete feels like its own world – full of mountains, beaches, charming villages, and mythology. Legend has it that Zeus himself was born here, and walking around the island it’s easy to see why this place has inspired so many stories.

Cayo Resort Elounda Crete sea view from balcony

We stayed in Elounda, a town on Crete’s northeast coast, at the beautiful Cayo Exclusive Resort and Spa. Perched on a hillside overlooking the Aegean Sea, the resort quickly became our sanctuary.

From our balcony we could watch the water sparkle in the morning and enjoy incredible sunsets in the evening.

Elounda itself was a delight with small beaches, charming shops, and easy access to boat trips to Spinalonga Island, which has Venetian ruins and a moving history as a former leper colony. We walked into town everyday, whether it was for a coffee at our favorite cafe, to shop, or to have a cocktail!

Private villa pool overlooking the Aegean Sea in Crete

Where We Stayed in Crete: Cayo Exclusive Resort & Spa

Our villa at the magnificent Cayo Resort included three floors with a bedroom and bathroom for each of us, three balconies with amazing views, two patios, and a private pool!

The resort is located in the small seaside village of Plaka in northeastern Crete and overlooks the turquoise waters of Mirabello Bay and the historic island of Spinalonga. The hillside setting means almost every room has sweeping views of the sea, which makes waking up here incredibly special.

The resort is connected by small funicular railways that take guests between different levels of the property, which was actually a fun way to get around and enjoy the views.

Food lovers will appreciate the dining options at Cayo. The resort has several restaurants and bars serving everything from traditional Greek dishes to Mediterranean cuisine.

The resort was absolutely incredible with fantastic food, wonderful staff, and exceptional views everywhere you looked.

One of the things that makes Cayo Resort extra special is that many of the rooms and suites have private pools overlooking the Aegean Sea. Our room featured:

While there were plenty of activities at the resort, you know we still had to get out and explore the island.

Why We Loved Staying at Cayo Resort

For our family trip, Cayo Resort was the perfect place to unwind after busy days exploring Athens and Crete. Between the breathtaking sea views, incredible food, and peaceful atmosphere, it felt like a true escape. Not to mention, there are three incredible pools, a spa and a yoga and fitness center. The amenities are perfection!

A Boat Day in Crete

Saturday was our fourth day of vacation and our first full day in Crete. It was also the day before Easter with many local celebrations and feasts planned.

We woke up early to enjoy the sunrise before spending some time relaxing by the resort pools.

Lunch onboard Meraki Cruises boat tour off the coast of Crete

Later we went on a boating adventure with Meraki Cruises. It was a windy day and we had the boat all to ourselves. They served us lunch and wine, so much delicious food! And all fresh – one thing we really learned to love about Greek food was the simplicity and freshness. YUM!

It was a wonderful experience that all three generations could truly enjoy together.

The cruise was actually a few hours long and we went through the bay, saw the ruins, and it was just breathtaking!

We even stopped to dip our toes in the water!

Experiencing Greek Easter

After our cruise we visited Stone Beach before heading back to the resort to prepare for Holy Saturday dinner.

Later that evening we traveled to the nearby town of Agios Nikolaos to experience the midnight Easter celebrations. We didn’t take many pictures here as it was a very sacred experience, there were times that we felt (as tourists) that we shouldn’t be there to witness everything…but everyone was welcoming and it really was incredible!

Traditional Greek Easter celebration red eggs Tsougrisma

Easter Sunday in Greece is a very big celebration. One of the most well-known traditions is cracking the red eggs, which symbolize the blood of Christ and resurrection.

Families play a game called Tsougrisma, where you tap your egg against someone else’s. Whoever cracks their opponent’s egg on both ends is said to have good luck for the rest of the year.

Easter Celebration Dancers at Cayo Resort in Crete

There was also singing, dancing, and an incredible feast at the hotel, with traditional Greek dancers performing for more than three hours. We sat there and enjoyed every single minute, it was truly something we will never get to experience again….if you happen to be in Greece over Easter, be sure to take a part of all their traditions!

We even got to join in on the dancing 🙂

A Day Trip to Santorini

On our last full day in Crete we took a ferry to Santorini, and I would highly recommend it. Since we were only there for about 5 hours, we got a local guide – which I also highly recommend!

SeaJet into Santorini Greece

The ferry only runs once each way per day, so you can’t be late. Once you arrive you have about five hours to explore, but we managed to pack quite a lot into that short time.

Women in front of Blue domed churches and white buildings in Santorini Greece

We wandered the narrow streets lined with white-washed buildings and iconic blue-domed churches, one of the most recognizable sights in all of Greece. We ate, sipped wine and look in all the water views and embraced….everything! Santorini is also famous for its wine, thanks to its unique volcanic soil. If you enjoy learning about wine while traveling, you might also enjoy exploring some of my wine tips and pairings.

While visiting Santorini, Sadie and my mom both got their first tattoos before we headed back to Crete!

We originally planned a wine tasting and lunch at Venetsanos Winery, but with limited time on the island, we ended up cancelling it so that we didn’t feel rushed.

Greek Food and Local Flavors

One of Greece’s greatest gifts is its food, and we made it a point to let the menus guide us.

In Athens we enjoyed classic Greek dishes like Greek salads, grilled meats, the freshest most amazing seafood and vegetables, warm bread with olive oil, and sweet treats.

In Crete the cuisine felt even more local and seasonal, olive oils that tasted unlike anything I have had here in the states, fresh fish straight from the sea, and ice cream.

Meals in Greece are meant to be slow, shared, and full of conversation. Some of my favorite memories from the trip happened around the dining table.

Is Athens and Crete a Good Combination for a Greece Trip?

Athens and Crete complement each other beautifully.

Athens offers incredible history, ancient ruins, vibrant neighborhoods, and world-famous landmarks.

Crete provides stunning beaches, mountain landscapes, charming villages, and a slower pace that invites you to relax and soak in the scenery.

Together they create an experience that works perfectly. I did use a travel agent to help with all the details of this trip (and many of our other trips!), if you need a good one, reach out to me, happy to give you her information.

When to Visit Greece

We traveled in April, which turned out to be a fantastic time to visit Greece. Cayo Exclusive Resort actually just opened the weekend before we got there, so we felt like it was our own private oasis!

The weather was warm enough for exploring during the day but cool enough for light sweaters at night. By traveling before the peak summer season we avoided extreme heat and heavy tourist crowds.

The best times to visit Greece are generally April through June and September through October. However, April is typically cooler, but we were 100% okay with that….it made walking around much more enjoyable.

Tips To Share About Our Greece Trip

Wear comfortable walking shoes

Athens is built on stone and uneven pathways. You’ll climb stairs and cover more ground than you expect.

Use offline maps

Many street signs in Athens are written only in Greek. Downloading offline maps ahead of time made navigating much easier.

Embrace the local dining schedule

Lunch is typically the largest meal of the day, while dinner happens later in the evening.

Don’t overschedule

Some of our favorite moments were unplanned – sitting at a café, watching the waves, or relaxing by the pool.

Final Thoughts on Our Three-Generation Greece Trip

This vacation was the perfect choice for a three-generation trip. My mom, my daughter, and I all loved it, and we made memories we will treasure forever. We are almost done with our scrapbook!

From ancient ruins in Athens to sunsets over the Aegean Sea in Crete, Greece gave us experiences that brought us closer together.

We would absolutely return to both Athens and Crete again.

Traveling through Greece also reminded me how much I love the fresh ingredients and simple flavors of Mediterranean cooking. If you enjoy Greek flavors too, you may also love this Mediterranean-inspired recipe.

How to Plan an Athens and Crete Itinerary (Sample 7-Day Trip)

If you’re planning a trip to Greece and trying to decide how to divide your time, combining Athens and Crete is a wonderful way to experience both ancient history and beautiful island life. Athens offers iconic historic landmarks and vibrant city culture, while Crete gives you stunning beaches, charming villages, and incredible food.

Here’s a sample 7-day Athens and Crete itinerary similar to the one we experienced on our three-generation Greece trip.

Day 1: Arrive in Athens

Most international flights arrive in Athens in the morning, so plan for a relaxed first day to adjust to the time change.

After checking into your hotel, spend some time exploring the area around your hotel or enjoying a meal at a rooftop restaurant with views of the Acropolis. Seeing the Parthenon lit up at night is a magical way to start your trip.

Things to do your first day:

  • Walk through the Plaka neighborhood
  • Enjoy dinner at a rooftop restaurant
  • Take in sunset views of the Acropolis

Day 2: Explore Historic Athens

Your second day is perfect for exploring Athens’ incredible history.

Start the morning by visiting the Acropolis, one of the most famous ancient sites in the world. Then head to the Acropolis Museum, which beautifully displays artifacts discovered at the archaeological site.

Later in the day, explore the city with a guided tour or even a fun tuk tuk ride like we did.

Highlights to consider:

  • The Acropolis and Parthenon
  • Acropolis Museum
  • Changing of the Guards at Syntagma Square
  • Athens Central Market
  • A Greek cooking class in the evening

Day 3: Travel to Crete

On the third day, take a short flight from Athens to Crete. Flights typically take about 45–60 minutes, making it easy to continue your Greek adventure on the island.

After arriving in Crete, check into your hotel and spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or exploring a nearby beach.

This is also a great time to enjoy your first traditional Cretan meal featuring fresh seafood, olive oil, local cheeses, and regional wines.

Day 4: Explore Elounda and Plaka

Spend the day exploring the beautiful coastal towns near Elounda.

The small fishing village of Plaka is charming and peaceful, with seaside restaurants and incredible views across the water to Spinalonga Island.

Things to enjoy nearby:

  • Walking through Plaka village
  • Lunch at a waterfront taverna
  • Relaxing on the beach
  • Sunset views over Mirabello Bay

Day 5: Boat Tour Along the Coast of Crete

One of our favorite experiences in Crete was taking a boat tour along the island’s stunning coastline.

The crystal-clear water, dramatic cliffs, and hidden coves make for an unforgettable day on the water. Many boat tours also include opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying local food and drinks.

This is a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty of Crete.

Day 6: Day Trip to Santorini

If you have time, consider taking a day trip to Santorini from Crete.

While Santorini is famous for its white buildings and blue domes, it’s also known for its volcanic wines and incredible views of the caldera.

Popular experiences include:

  • Visiting a local winery
  • Exploring the town of Oia
  • Watching the famous Santorini sunset

Even a single day on this iconic island is unforgettable.

Day 7: Relax and Depart

Spend your final day relaxing and soaking in the last views of the Aegean Sea before heading to the airport for your flight home.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, take one last swim, or walk through a nearby village before saying goodbye to Greece.

Why Athens and Crete Are Perfect for a Greece Itinerary

Athens and Crete make an ideal combination because they offer two very different but complementary travel experiences.

Experience the Best of Guanacaste, Costa Rica

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

Discover the best of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, with zipline canopy tours, pristine beaches, and thrilling rainforest adventures. Explore top attractions like the Arenal Volcano, Tamarindo, and Playa Flamingo for an unforgettable vacation.

Best of Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Make the most of your vacation in Costa Rica. Stay in Guanacaste, one of the largest yet least populated provinces. It sits on the northwest Pacific coast, surrounded by volcanic mountain ranges and some of the best beaches in the country. Jungle landscapes tumble down to the ocean; cattle ranches sprawl across grassy savannas and open prairies. The area has recently been discovered, and although there has been a surge of new development in the past few years, it remains peaceful and pristine.

Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Things To Do In Guanacaste, Costa Rica

A Zipline Canopy Tour of the Costa Rican Jungle

Visit the Buena Vista Lodge, located on the outskirts of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano and experience ecotourism at its finest. They offer zipline canopy tours of the jungle with an  authentic canopy expedition, the second canopy to be built in the world. The zipline course consists of 12 platforms, nestled in primary forest, connected by ten cables, hovering some 65 feet in the air. Look down to spot toucans and howler monkeys perched in the trees and for stunning views of the forests below and the mountains beyond.

The resort also offers horseback rides through the forest, on a stone-littered trail with streams, and waterfalls alongside the trail. The 45-minute trip ends at a natural hot spring, with warm, soothing pools of water and a tub of hot volcanic mud, that some claim has detoxifying powers. Guests are urged to smear their bodies head to toe with the mud before washing off and jumping into the warm springs.

The Buena Vista Lodge also offers plenty of hiking trails, as well as hanging bridges high above the jungle floor so that you can see all of the amazing wildlife below. Don’t miss the waterslide through the jungle either! That’s right, there is a 1400 foot water slide that will have you racing through the jungle at the speed of a raging river. These are just the wonderful experiences available at the lodge, there are nearby experiences that you may also enjoy.

Things to do in Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Explore Tamarindo and Playa Flamingo

Guanacaste has one of the prettiest beaches in Costa Rica. Playa Flamingo, one of Costa Rica’s “Blue Flag” beaches (a distinction granted to beaches with excellent cleanliness), is a sugar-white crescent beach surrounded by tall mountains. It’s a great place to spend the day or to watch the sunset. Nearby is Tamarindo, a funky surfer town with open-air vendor stalls and shops. There are a handful of outfitters who offer surfing and snorkeling excursions. Protected coves and coral reefs are home to schools of neon-colored tropical fish and sea turtles. The beaches also provide critical nesting sites for sea turtles, including the endangered leatherback turtle.

Tamarindo is also the place to be if you want to experience some Costa Rican nightlife. There are plenty of bars, night clubs, and restaurants to choose from if you are looking for a fun night out.

Take a  Rainforest Tour

Don’t miss your chance to take a rainforest tour while you are visiting Costa Rica. There are plenty of tour companies that will be happy to take you out, but it’s best not to explore the rainforest without a guide. While there are many beautiful plants, trees, and even animals ot see there are also many dangers hidden in the rainforest.

Costa Rica is home to poisonous viper snakes as well as many species of non-venomous snakes. Costa Rica is one of the top five producers of anti-venom in the world—and there’s a reason for that! More than 150 people were bitten by vipers last year in Costa Rica; and unfortunately some of them did not survive.

If you are going on a tour of the rainforest, you will need closed toed shoes, preferably hiking boots. Many guides suggest longer boots that cover the calves as well. If you do see a snake among all of the beautiful foliage and flowers of the rainforest, back away slowly and don’t attempt to touch it!

Things To Do in Costa Rica

Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort

After your rainforest hike a little relaxation and rejuvenation are in order. Schedule a visit to Tabacon Grand Spa Thermal Resort. This upscale resort is a watery wonderland, nestled in a lush, primary rainforest. There are a series of 12 natural pools heated by the Arenal Volcano, creating a warm, misty, soothing environment. Walking trails wind their way through exotic gardens, surrounding the pools, lagoons, and waterfalls.

You do not have to be a guest of the resort to enjoy the soothing waters. They have day passes so that visitors can explore certain areas of the resort. It is highly recommended that you get your day passes in advance, as there is only a set number available each day.

Visit Arenal Volcano National Park

The Arenal volcano has remained one of the most active volcanoes in the world, and lucky visitors can see some fireworks. Night time viewing is the best, and there are several vantage points for volcano viewing. If the timing is right—and it often is–the 7,000-year-old active volcano will erupt, sending sparks from its cone and rivers of hot lava down the dark slopes.

The volcanoes are not the only things to explore in the National Park. There are also waterfalls, hiking trails, hot springs, a safari float tour, a hanging bridge to cross and a chocolate tour.

Best attractions in Costa Rica

A trip to Guanacaste, Costa Rica will not disappoint. There is so much beauty everywhere you look and plenty of adventurous activities to participate in too. From waterfalls and volcanoes, to hot springs, zip lines, and gorgeous beaches there is something here for everyone.

Things to Do in Copenhagen: Food, Hotels, Tours, and Travel Tips

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

Explore the best things to do in Copenhagen, including bike tours, food markets, hotels, canal cruises, and travel tips for planning your trip.

Sunset view over Copenhagen canals near Reffen street food market

After 4 wonderful nights in Iceland, we traveled on to Copenhagen. And it quickly became one of our favorite cities of the entire trip! We stayed here for 4 nights as well. Often ranked as one of the happiest places to live in the world, Copenhagen blends history, culture, food, and everyday livability in a way that’s hard not to love. Did you know that Copenhagen is said to be one of the happiest places to live on Earth?  With up to 25 paid vacation days per year, award-winning food, art, and tons of history, not to mention a drinking age of 16, there are plenty of reasons to be happy!

The city was designed with people in mind, making it easy to explore on foot or by bike, much like Amsterdam. Whether you’re visiting for the food, history, canals, or cozy café culture, this Copenhagen travel guide highlights what we did, where we ate, where we stayed, and helpful tips to know before you go.

Getting Around Copenhagen

Copenhagen was built to be explored! It is known as the best biking city in the world, with bike lanes and even bike bridges to help cyclists get around quickly and easily. As a tourist, you obviously won’t have your own bicycle with you, but there are plenty of places to rent one, including most hotels. If you plan to explore Copenhagen by bike, be sure to familiarize yourself with local biking rules and etiquette, as cyclists take them seriously.

What We Did in Copenhagen

There is so much to see, do, and explore in Copenhagen. This was one of my husband and I’s favorite cities of the entire trip. The locals are friendly, the food is fantastic, and the amount of history packed into the city is truly impressive. Here’s a rundown of some of the highlights from our stay.

Bikes With Mike guided bike tour through Copenhagen landmarks

Bikes with Mike Tour

One of our favorite experiences in Copenhagen was the Bikes With Mike Ride & Dine Tour. This was not a leisurely bike ride – Mike is a fast peddler – but it was incredibly fun and informative. Along the way, we learned about Danish history, culture, and daily life while covering a lot of ground.

Cycling past Christiansborg Palace during a Copenhagen bike tour

We visited Christiansborg Palace and its gardens. While the palace is no longer home to the king and queen, it’s still used by the Royal Family and houses the Danish Parliament and Supreme Court. One of the coolest parts of the tour was cycling right up to high-level government buildings – something you wouldn’t see in many cities.

Street food vendors and outdoor seating at Reffen food market in Copenhagen

The Little Mermaid statue was another stop (more on her story below), followed by a visit to Reffen, Copenhagen’s famous street food market, where we enjoyed amazing food and a beautiful sunset.

Outdoor seating at Reffen food market in Copenhagen at sunset

Our final stop was the Church of Our Lady, also known as Copenhagen Cathedral, which was absolutely stunning.

Guided walking tour group exploring historic Copenhagen streets

Guided Walking Tour

There are several free guided walking tours of Copenhagen that you can choose from. We went on this one and loved it! It is a wonderful opportunity to learn all about the city and its history for free from a local. You can also learn the best places to eat, and spots that you absolutely don’t want to miss that may not even be listed in guidebooks or online travel itineraries. The tours are free, but tipping your guide at the end is encouraged and well deserved.

Renting an electric boat to cruise the canals of Copenhagen

Boat Rental on the Canals

One of the best ways to see Copenhagen is from the water, so we rented an electric boat to explore the canals. Boats can be rented by the hour, and while they’re slower due to eco-friendly power, it’s a relaxing way to experience the city.

Boat rental experience cruising the canals of Copenhagen

We rented a GO Boat for an hour (you can rent it for longer if desired) and cruised through the canals – our only regret was not bringing along a nice bottle of wine to enjoy onboard.

Relaxing in a harbor-side hot tub during a hot and cold plunge in Copenhagen

Hot & Cold Plunge Experience

During our trip, we rented a hot tub for some relaxation and to try the hot cold plunge. These rented hot tubs overlook the harbor, and you can go from a nice cozy hot tub to a cold tub and back as often as you like. You can bring wine or beer to enjoy in the tubs while looking out at the harbor.

I will say that while this was an unique experience, it’s not one I would totally recommend. The location wasn’t our favorite.

The Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen along the waterfront

Little Mermaid Statue

Did you know that the setting of the Little Mermaid fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen was Denmark? The Little Mermaid Statue in Copenhagen is a symbol of Copenhagen and Danish culture! The Little Mermaid statue is one of Copenhagen’s most iconic landmarks. The statue is inspired by the fairytale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen and the original story is much darker than the Disney version.

In the fairytale, the mermaid trades her voice for a human soul, but every step she takes is excruciatingly painful. When she fails to make the prince fall in love with her, she throws herself into the sea and turns into foam. Not exactly the happily-ever-after we’re used to, but fascinating nonetheless.

Display at the Danish War Museum in Copenhagen

Danish War Museum

The Danish War Museum offers a stunning display of Danish history and weaponry from the 1500s till the present day with samurai swords to weapons of today.

Cannons on display at the Danish War Museum in Copenhagen

In Cannon Hall, you see the cannons used to protect Denmark over the centuries, and in the Rust Chamber, you’ll learn about how wars were fought over land and sea for the past 500 years. There is also an exhibit showcasing what life was like serving as a Danish soldier in Afghanistan.

Changing of the Royal Guard ceremony in Copenhagen palace square

Changing of the Guards

The city of Copenhagen is a royal one, and it is home to one of the oldest monarchies in the world. One of the things we did during our trip was to watch the changing of the royal guard in the palace square.

Changing of the Royal Guard ceremony in Copenhagen palace

The changing of the guard happens every day at noon, and the Royal Life Guard leaves their living quarters at Rosenborg Castle every day at 11:30 and marches to the castle. When the Royal Family is in residence, the guards are accompanied by musicians playing drums and flutes.

Viking Tour in Roskilde

We didn’t get to go on this tour during our trip, but it’s definitely on our list of things to do next time. You can go on a guided or self-guided tour of the Viking Ship museum, the Roskilde Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Old Town.

From May through September, visitors can even sail on a reconstructed Viking ship, an unforgettable way to experience Denmark’s Viking history.

For a closer look at our trip, I’ve shared some of our favorite Copenhagen moments on Instagram – swipe through our Highlight or check out these posts: [post 1], [post 2], [post 3].

Traditional Danish smørrebrød served at Europa restaurant in Copenhagen

Where We Ate In Copenhagen

One of the best parts of visiting a new place is being able to try out all of their local cuisines and Copenhagen did not disappoint! The food here is wonderful, and the city of Copenhagen has 30 Michelin stars awarded across 19 different restaurants. There are 3, three three-star restaurants in Copenhagen, which is the most that any single restaurant can receive. No Michelin stars are required to experience a wonderful meal here, though. Here are some of the places we enjoyed.

Amalie restaurant in Copenhagen

Amalie

Amalie is a cozy restaurant in an 18th-century townhouse near the castle. This Michelin  recommended restaurant has an expansive menu of traditional Danish meals. There are lots of Smørrebrød (pronounced “smuhr-ruh-bruh”) and herring dishes to choose from, with this staple Danish fish prepared in different ways. Smørrebrød is an open-faced sandwich and is a staple menu item for Danish lunches, and many are served with pickled herring as a topping.

Traditional Danish smørrebrød served at Amalie restaurant in Copenhagen

Amalie is classy yet comfortable, and they are open Monday through Saturday for lunch; and reservations are required.

Christianshavn Cafe

Christianshavn Boat Rental and Cafe is a floating cafe where you can sit and enjoy a meal while watching the water and the people passing by. The cafe is located directly across from the Christianshavn Metro station. They are open daily for lunch and dinner, and it’s the perfect place to grab a meal and a drink right on the water.

After your meal, you can rent a boat or simply sip on your cocktail as you watch them pass by. You have been able to rent boats here since 1896, and for the past 20 years, you can grab a meal and listen to a band while you watch the boats in the harbor too.

Cocktails and canal views at Kayak Bar in Copenhagen

Kayak Bar

Kayak Bar offers more than just tasty cocktails, burgers, and paddle-worthy snacks, as the name suggests, you can also rent a kayak to paddle the canals here. If kayaking is not your style just pull up a beach chair and watch as others float on by!

Reffen

Reffen is the largest street food market in all of Northern Europe. There are more than 70 vendor stalls, multiple bars, and a coffee shop. If you are in Copenhagen, you must check it out! There is so much amazing food to choose from, and it has a fun and friendly atmosphere too.

We stopped here as part of our Bikes With Mike tour, and we have no regrets. The food was amazing, and the people were too!

Admiral Hotel Copenhagen located in the heart of the city

Where We Stayed in Copenhagen

During our visit, we stayed at the Admiral Hotel. This four-star hotel is located right in the heart of downtown Copenhagen, giving you easy access to dining, shopping, theaters, and adventure! There are 366 Scandinavian-designed rooms, and every one of them is stylish and comfortable, from their single rooms to their executive suites.

Best Time to Visit Copenhagen

There is truly no “bad” time to visit Copenhagen. The city is beautiful  year round, some seasons may be better for your visit depending on the activities you want to enjoy during your trip.

Summer

We were here during the summer, and while it’s much cooler than Tampa, the temperatures were comfortable, staying between 68 and 77 degrees. Don’t forget that summer days are long with 17 to 19 hours of daylight so you will have plenty of time to explore. There’s a very festival-like atmosphere in the summer with lots of food trucks, markets, live music, and open-air cafes that you may not see during other seasons.

Fall

Fall temperatures in Copenhagen average 50 to 59 degrees, so while it’s comfortable, it can get a little chilly if you are spending a lot of time outdoors. Layers of clothing will keep you comfortable throughout the day. Fall is an excellent season for hiking through forests like Gribskor or exploring museums. You are likely to find lots of harvest festivals and plentiful pumpkins and apples.

Winter

The Winter season in Copenhagen is cold and snowy but very beautiful. The average temperatures are 32 to 41 degrees Fahrenheit.  It’s  a great time to go ice skating, shopping, or exploring the many museums and churches. If the cold doesn’t bother you, you can go winter bathing on the beach. Alternatively, you can enjoy the fantastic food and stay warm and cozy in one of the many local cafes!

Spring

Spring in Copenhagen is absolutely beautiful with flowers blossoming everywhere. Temperatures average 41 to 59 degrees, and layers are recommended. Cycling around the city and waterfront dining are some of the top recommended activities for spring. It’s also a beautiful time to go hiking, and if you need some retail therapy, explore the shops around the city.

What To Drink in Denmark

Denmark is Europe’s northernmost grape-growing region, and it produces some excellent and even award-winning varieties. Denmark’s first vines were Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc, all cool-climate grapes that grow well in the region.

You might not automatically think about Denmark when you think of wine, but they have some really nice offerings to try.

Akvavit

Akvavit is considered the national drink and is often consumed at celebrations such as Easter or Christmas dinner as a celebratory beverage. Akvavit is made from grains or potatoes and is quite strong and flavored with herbs like dill.

Beer is another popular Danish alcoholic beverage with many craft brews to choose from; some you may be familiar with include Carlsberg and Tuborg.

Know Before You Go

As always, before traveling to a new city, it’s nice to know a little about the area. Here are a few things to know about Copenhagen before you arrive.

Language

The official language of Copenhagen is Danish, but you won’t have any trouble communicating. Danish children learn to speak English from a young age in school, so the majority of people you meet will be fluent in English.

Currency

The local currency of Copenhagen is the Danish kroner, while some places accept US dollars, not all of them will. Nearly everywhere will accept Euros, but you come out better using the kroner, and all of the prices you see will be in kroners or DKK. If you want to get the most “bang for your buck” , exchange your currency for kroners.

VAT Tax

Like Iceland and most European countries, Copenhagen has a VAT, or value-added tax, added to the price of goods and services. In Copenhagen, the VAT tax is 25% and non-EU residents can apply for a refund of the VAT on purchases of DKK 300, you can learn more about it and how to receive a refund here.

How To Make A Black Velvet Cocktail

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

The Black Velvet cocktail blends Guinness and champagne for a bold yet bubbly drink. A simple, elegant recipe perfect for St. Patrick’s Day or brunch or any day!

Black Velvet Cocktail

The Black Velvet cocktail is one of those drinks that might make you raise an eyebrow at first, but trust me, it works! This surprisingly yummy cocktail is made with just two ingredients: rich, dark stout beer (like Guinness) and crisp, bubbly sparkling wine or champagne. While the combination may sound a little weird, it creates a perfectly balanced drink that’s both bold and elegant. The roasted malt flavors of the stout mingle with the bubbles of the champagne, delivering a sip that’s smooth, sophisticated, and unexpected.

The History of the Black Velvet Cocktail

So, where did this Guinness and champagne cocktail come from? The story goes back to 1861 in England. After the death of Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, a steward created the drink as a tribute. He thought champagne on its own felt too celebratory for such a somber occasion, so he paired it with stout to tone it down. The result was the Black Velvet cocktail, a drink that quickly grew in popularity and has stood the test of time. Ask for one the next time you belly up to the bar!

What Does a Black Velvet Taste Like?

The best way to describe a Black Velvet is balanced. Guinness provides a rich, velvety backbone with notes of roasted malt and a hint of bitterness. Sparkling wine lightens it up with crisp bubbles and a touch of sweetness. Together, the contrast creates a refreshing yet indulgent drink that feels both approachable and refined. If you like cocktails that surprise your palate and look impressive in the glass, this one checks all the boxes.

When to Enjoy a Black Velvet Cocktail

The Black Velvet is as versatile as it is unique. It’s a natural fit for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, but it’s also a fun choice for brunches, holiday gatherings, or anytime you want to wow your guests with something a little different. It’s simple to make but feels elevated, making it one of those drinks you’ll keep in your back pocket for special occasions (and casual ones, too!).

How to Make a Black Velvet Cocktail

To make a Black Velvet cocktail, you’ll need a champagne flute, cold Guinness, and chilled champagne.

Start by pouring the Guinness into the glass first, filling it about halfway.

Then, gently top it with champagne. To try for a layered effect, try pouring the champagne over the back of a spoon to help it float on top of the stout. This technique creates a beautiful visual contrast while maintaining the cocktail’s signature smooth taste. As you can see, that is not a technique I have mastered….but let me know if you manage it!

Give the Black Velvet Cocktail a Try!

Don’t let the unusual pairing scare you off, this drink is proof that opposites attract 😉 The Black Velvet cocktail is smooth, festive, and always a conversation starter.
