And lose ourselves we did…

We went to the 9:00 pm show and my kiddos are 8 and 6, so my husband and I were slightly worried that they would be antsy in the show.

Did they? NO. It was an AMAZING show. How is it possible that 3 Blue Men can keep a totally filled audience completely engaged for 2 hours? Well, you will just have to see the show 😉 But I will tell you that there is paint, art, food, and a lot of audience participation. We laughed and smiled for 2 hours straight.

Blue Man Group Orlando Florida Details

The only part of the show that you can take pictures is during the “Booty Shaking” and that was definitely a FUN part. My son was laughing non-stop at all the different names they came up for your bum. And me and Sadie…well, we were Booty Shaking! I told you guys that we love to dance 🙂

At the end of the show my son told me that his art teacher shows clips of the show in her class because it shows different ways to express art. How cool is that? First of all, I love that his teacher thinks outside the box, second – I love that he gets to see clips of this amazing show!

One of my other favorite parts of the show…the end. Well, not that it ended, but that when the show was over the Blue Man Group and the musicians were outside and available for pictures!

We got to have our pictures taken with the STARS!

Blue Man Group performances at Universal Orlando

Even if you have seen the show before, I highly recommend it. My husband and I both saw it about 10 years ago and it was a whole new experience…especially when you witness it through your children’s eyes.

After the show – head over to City Walk and enjoy some of the Orlando Night Life.  If we had the grandparents with us, we would sent the kids home with them and done a little dancing 😉  The music and lights coming from all the restaurants and clubs was definitely attention grabbing.

The Importance Of Family Game Night

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

The Importance Of Family Game Night

I was recently presented with an amazing opportunity for the wonderful folks at Hasbro. I have told you guys in the past that I LOVE Hasbro and this is just another reason why….

According to a recent survey from Hasbro Games, 91% of families who make the time to play games together report that game playing sessions give their family mood a positive boost. Dr. Christine Carter, a happiness expert, sociologist and parent educator based out of UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, assisted with the survey and shared some tips on how families can make the most out of family time — whenever we’re able to schedule it!

I was given the opportunity to have a one-on-one interview with Dr. Carter and I wanted to share it with you guys. The holidays are here, and they are all about family togetherness and family traditions. Make sure you are giving your family quality time!

Here are the questions (Q) and answers (A) from my interview. Make sure you CLICK TO CONTINUE to see everything. Please feel free to leave your comments and questions in the comments on this post.

Q. Do you think the amount of time families spend together has diminished over the years?

A. Studies show that families are actually spending more tine together, but less QUALITY time. We are spending more time running errands, go to functions, etc…but less actual quality time.

Q. Do you feel as though Family Game nights are better than Movie nights? You are still together as a family…

A. Movie night and game nights are just…DIFFERENT. Movie nights are more passive. Game nights are get everyone active. Kids learn to be an active part of something that is bigger than just them…a team. Skills are used on game nights…such as: team work, win gracefully, to not be a sore loser, etc.

First Day Of School – Did You Cry?

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

first-day-of-school

So my kiddos started back to school today.  They were both excited yesterday, but more nervous today.  I walked them both to class to meet the teachers and they had to deal with me taking pictures of them at their new desks 🙂  Both had friends from last year in their classes…hopefully that makes the day a little easier for them both.

Do you still cry?  I did!  I was really surprised too!  Steven is in 3rd grade, and this year he had a “real” desk!  For some reason, that made me really tear up!  No more table…it was a DESK.  That means he is getting big – real big!  And before you know it he will be driving.  Seriously, where does the time go?

Being a mom is the most magical thing in the world, but I guess NOTHING can prepare you for these moments.  The moments that just pull at those heart strings and just make the tears flow.  For reason you can’t understand…

So, to all the moms out there – Thank you for being an awesome mom!  And to all the kids out there…Can you stop growing for just a few minutes 😉

Happy First Day of school everyone!

I have a few ideas for you guys for your Easter Meals.  Can you believe that Easter is just about 2 weeks away?  Wasn’t it just Christmas?!  I know that ham is a common Easter dinner meal, and I make mine in the Crock Pot and it is so easy!

What You Need:

  • Ham
  • Orange Juice

  • You can also use Coke!

What You Do:

  • Put everything in the crock pot!
  • You want enough liquid to cover about 1/4 of the ham

For dessert – how about a Strawberry Chocolate Truffle??  Sounds good to me 🙂

What You Need:

  • Now spread half of the strawberry glaze on top of strawberries in the bowl, followed by a third of Cool Whip.
  • Next, repeat layers in the same order- cake, 1/3 of pudding, strawberries, strawberry glaze, 1/3 of Cool Whip.
  • On top of that, add the remaining 1/3 of chocolate pudding, followed by the remaining 1/3 of Cool Whip.

Tips For Hiking With Kids

Hiking can be fun for the whole family, but before you go out exploring, be sure to visit these tips for hiking with kids. Have fun and be safe!
Top Tips For Hiking With Kids

Tips For Hiking With Kids

Spring is in full swing around here and it is time to get outdoors and take a hike. Taking a hike is a fun, physical activity that the whole family can enjoy together, and bonus, it’s free. Even if it’s still a little chilly outside where you are, you can still go on a short walk in the great outdoors to see what you can find.

When you are hiking with kids, your #1 goal should be to simply have fun. This means you are going to have to be flexible. Being flexible means that you may go slower on your hike than if you were by yourself, it means that the kids may want to look at something that you may not, it may mean that they want to take breaks a little more frequently than you. But that’s okay. Your goal when hiking with your kids is to have fun.

Best Tips For Hiking With Kids

Here are some tips for hiking with kids:

Be flexible
As I mentioned, your #1 goal is to have fun and explore, so let the kids set the pace.

Bring water and snacks
It’s easy to lose track of time when you are having fun, so make sure to stop frequently and have snack and water breaks. Consider packing high protein snacks to keep everyone fueled longer.

Be aware of the temperature
If you are starting your hike and it’s chilly, you will want to dress in layers because as the day goes on it may warm up, or your body temperature will due to the exercise.

Don’t forget bug spray and sunscreen
The woods are usually filled with lots of bugs, so it doesn’t hurt to have a bit of bug spray. Sunscreen is always important when you are outside, and don’t forget to reapply your sunscreen.

Pick a short trail
Don’t take the kids out on a 10 mile journey for their first hike, pick a short one that will have lots of interesting things to see. If you have a pond/lake/waterfall near by, even better!

Bring a map
Yes they still exist! And now is a great time to show your kids what they are and how to read them. You can even bring a compass and teach your kids how to read a compass.

Safety First
Have your child carry a small water bottle and a snack on their own, heaven forbid you get separated, they need to have something will them. Make sure each child has a safety whistle with them, attached is best so it doesn’t get dropped. Every single time you go out for a hike wit your kids discuss what happens if you do get separated. Make sure your child(ren) that they know don’t move – stay where they are – and blow their whistle 3 times in sharp bursts. Tell your child that blowing the whistle will help mom and dad find them.

Clean up after yourself
Make sure to tuck a plastic bag in your and your child’s their pack so that they can carry out any trash they might find on the trail. They are never too young to teach them about being good stewards of the environment.

Things to do when hiking with kids

Now that you and your family are ready to go out on your hike, here are some fun things for you to do while you are out on your hike:

Ask your kids to look for ten things of a certain color.
Whoever finds ten items of one color first gets to pick the next color to search for.

Before heading out make a list of sights, sounds, and smells that you might encounter on your hike.
When you find those things check them off of the list you made together. You can search for pine cones, acorns, rocks in different shapes, flowers, or running water.

Collect interesting bits of nature on your hike and bring them home for an art project.
Don’t take anything living though. Some ideas of things you might collect are leaves, interesting rocks, pine cones or sticks. You can put all of your finds together in a mason jar to depict a memory of your walk, or you can glue your items to cardboard and have your children write memories about the hike on it for a fun show and tell project. With your help, and depending on how many rocks you find, you can make your own Rock Flower Art.

Play I spy as you walk along the trail.
I spy is always a fun game to play and it keeps kids engaged as they walk along the trail.

Use your imaginations
Let the kids pretend that they are animals as they walk along the trail. If they don’t want to be animals, why not super heroes? You can pretend that you are on a mission to save the world and you have to reach the end of the trail by a certain time!

Play follow the leader
If you are on a well marked trail take turns letting your kids be the “leader”. It makes the hike more fun for little guys if they know that in a few minutes they will get to lead the group.

Have a scavenger hunt
Make a list of things to search for while you are on your hike. You may even want to have a small prize or treat for whoever finds all of the items on the list first. You can print a fun (and free) scavenger hunt printable here.

Spending time outdoors and hiking can be hungry work especially for the kids so make sure that you pack plenty of healthy snack and drinks to enjoy along the way, and it doesn’t hurt to have a cooler in the car with sandwiches ready to go when you get back.

Tips For Hiking With Kids

Get outside, spend time together outdoors exploring and hiking, and enjoy this beautiful spring weather we are having.

Orange Jello Cottage Cheese Ambrosia Salad

Orange Jello Cottage Cheese Ambrosia Salad

If you’re looking for a delicious, light, and sweet side dish to serve at your next gathering, look no further than Ambrosia Salad! This classic Southern dish is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.

There are about a million different Ambrosia Salad Recipes out there, and you probably have one that you make at home already. That’s the beauty of an Ambrosia Salad, it’s completely customizable to your tastes. Want to add in grapes? Go for it! Want to add in pecans? Go for it! Want to add in maraschino cherries? Go for it! Want to add coconut? Go for it! However, if you do like coconut, I do recommended toasting the coconut first, it gives it a bit more flavor.

I know that some people call Ambrosia Salad, Watergate Salad too, I think it really all depends on what your grandparents called it. And no matter what you call this fluffy salad-like dessert, if you are here reading this post, you know you like it. Ambrosia Salad is super easy to make and is usually served around the holidays or as a side to BBQs or picnics. I know that it reminds me of summer.

What You Need To Make Cottage Cheese Ambrosia Salad is

1 15 oz. can of Crushed Pineapples, drained very well
1 11 oz can of Mandarin orange segments, drained well
1 16 oz tub of Cool Whip (make sure it’s not frozen)
1 16 oz tub of small curd cottage cheese
2 cups mini marshmallows
1 large box of Orange Jello

What You Do To Make Orange Cottage Cheese Ambrosia Salad:

In a medium sized bowl, mix the Cool Whip, cottage cheese, and orange Jello. Mix it thoroughly to dissolve the jello mix.

After mixing these ingredients together, add in the crushed pineapple and mandarin orange segments. Fold these ingredients in – don’t just whisk or stir (this helps in keeping the orange segments together).

It is best firmed up and cold, so after mixing all of the ingredients together – cover and place in the fridge at least an hour!

Orange Jello Ambrosia Salad

Easy enough right? Do you remember having Orange Jello Cottage Cheese Salad when you were a kid?

Ambrosia salad has become a beloved dessert dish across the United States, but have you ever wondered where it came from? This sweet and creamy concoction of marshmallows, oranges, pineapple, coconut and more has been around for over a century!

The exact origins of Ambrosia salad are unknown, but some say it was invented by the ladies of an Episcopal Church in North Carolina at the end of the 19th century. A recipe for Ambrosia first appeared in print in 1867 as a “mock ambrosia” made with oranges or lemons and sugar. By the 1920s recipes for Ambrosia had spread throughout America featuring other ingredients like nuts, cream cheese and maraschino cherries.

Now, here is the Orange Jello Cottage Cheese Ambrosia recipe, be sure to Print It and Pin It so that you can make it again and again.
