Can You Run A Half Marathon After 40? Can you run a half marathon if you are under 40? Are you contemplating running your 1st half marathon? It’s a bucket list item for many. Just to say that you have done it once. Then there are folks that want to run half marathons every weekend. I am NOT one of those people, I will tell you that right now. I am one of those people that believes in YOU though. I am one of those people that works out regularly and I do try my best to eat healthy, but I do enjoy my adult beverages and chocolate too.

It’s been about 5 or 6 years since I ran my first half marathon. My sister-in-law was coming to visit and she said that we WERE running the half marathon in St. Pete. I figured, sure…why not??

Everyone thought I was CRAZY. I had never ran 13 miles in a row before, but I was working out 4-5 times a week, so I wasn’t worried about being in shape. I went for a few walks and timed myself. I didn’t know what to expect, and that was probably a good thing. I didn’t do any of the training that you can find online, I just decided that I was going to try my best. Now, I am in no way a doctor and I am not telling you that everyone out there can do a half marathon, but I am giving you my opinion, that if you try – you can.

To register for a half marathon – you have to be able to complete it within 4 hours. That’s like an 18 minute mile. Have you ever walked around for 3 hours straight before? I’m sure you have, I have a BUNCH of times, Disney, Epcot, various theme parks, down the beach – you name it. If you can walk it, you can do it. You don’t have to RUN the whole 13 miles. There may be some pride that factors into it – that you really WANT to run the whole thing, but wouldn’t it be amazing to just say you did a half marathon?

What you do need to do is:

  • Believe in yourself
  • Be able to walk for at least 3-4 hours
  • Train enough so that you feel comfortable when you step up to that starting line

A lot of any training is mental, you have to believe in yourself. That is probably one of the most important half marathon training tips I can give you, believe in YOU.

I go to Jazzercise, go to the gym, and I run. Before any race, I make sure that I do a combination of it all, but most importantly I get a couple long distance jogs/walks in. The duration can be rough, your legs have to be used to constantly moving for 2 – 4 hours. So, train those muscles. Get them used to the movement.

Watch what you put into your body. Eat right – get in those fruits and vegetables (may I suggest trying one of my 50+ smoothie creations?), drink LOTS of water, and replenish what your body uses during your workouts. I have been drinking organic sports drinks made with coconut water after my long runs and intense workout sessions.

Nutrition is critical to the success of any runner. Runners should understand that nutrition is the foundation of being able to successfully run for miles on end, especially a half marathon.

Most runners put the bulk of their attention on their training schedules, but spending some time thinking about what they eat before, during, and after their runs, can pay dividends to feel better, running longer and achieving better performance.  That’s why nutrition is a big part of training for a half marathon.

The best way to think about nutrition as it relates to running is that food is fuel. Just like a car that runs on gasoline, the body runs on calories from food, and lots of calories are needed for running. Also, like our car analogy, a car specifically runs on gasoline. Put paint thinner in the tank. It won’t run. The body needs specific types of fuels to power exercise as well. And, just like a car that can carry only so much fuel in its tanks, the body can only stow so much away for use during exercise, which is why it becomes important to replenish fuel on the go when running for a long time.

What Types of Foods to Eat

Food provides the body with four different types of calories: protein, fat, carbohydrates, and alcohol. Exercise is primarily fueled by carbohydrates. Carbohydrates-rich foods are then grouped into simple (sugars) or complex carbohydrates (starches). Exercise is fueled best from foods high in complex carbohydrates.  Chocolate milk is an excellent source of protein, calcium and vitamins that your body needs.

That means that runners need to ensure that their diet includes plenty of starchy foods, which would include rice, pasta, bread, and potatoes, to name a few. The body is able to turn these foods into fuel that can be stored for use in the muscles during exercise.

When to Eat What

Next, the fuel needs to be there in the body when needed for exercise. Going back to our car analogy, it doesn’t make sense to put gas in the car after it runs out of fuel. The fuel needs to be in the tank when you leave for the trip.

Runners should concentrate on dividing their eating needs into the time periods of before, during, and after their runs.

Before running – concentrate on eating the complex carbohydrates needed to act as fuel for running and exercise.
During running – Try to replenish at least 20% of what the body is burning to keep from getting low on fuel.
After running – replenish complex carbohydrates by eating within the first 30 minutes to one hour afterward when the body is most receptive to refueling. Eating about 15 grams of protein during this time will also help speed recovery from exercise.  Grab a glass of chocolate milk!

How Much to Eat

There are some rules of thumb that can help in figuring out how many calories are needed for running. On average, it takes about 115 calories to run a mile. The actual amount of calories needed depends on the runner’s weight and the speed that they run. The heavier and the faster the runner, the more calories burned.

As a simple rule, runners need to make sure they eat enough complex carbohydrates to cover 115 calories for each mile that you plan to run the following day. For example, if planning on running 6 miles, then the runner should aim to consume about 690 calories from carbohydrates in preparation for that run.

In general, eating enough calories will help increase energy during runs, which will allow workouts to be harder, longer, and faster. Runners should experiment with diet, and they’ll find their half marathon training to be much more effective.

How to prepare for half marathon

The 24 Hours Leading Up To Race Day:

  • The day before the race, REST – don’t workout out today.
  • Get extra sleep. Most half marathons start early in the morning, so be sure to go to bed extra early.

Race Day:

  • In the morning, wake up in plenty of time to get ready and get to the starting line – the last thing you want to do is stress yourself out in the morning.
  • Have breakfast. I eat what everyone told me to eat before starting (a banana with peanut butter and a bagel or bread for some carbs).
  • I drink at every water station during the run (I figure if they are there, they are there for a reason).
  • Walk if you have to – there is no shame in it!
  • Go ahead and cry! The feeling of accomplishment that you get when you cross the line is absolutely amazing.  I tear up every time.
  • Try to eat foods and drink the chocolate milk that is offered at the finish line.

I have done several half marathons and I have another one coming. This will be my first half since I turned 40. It will be the first half marathon since I tore a meniscus in my knee. But I am gonna do it. I am listening to what my body needs (fruits, veggies, water, protein, etc.), resting when it tells me to, and I will cross that finish line.

So, if you are sitting there thinking that you can’t do, I want you to take a moment and believe in YOURSELF. You are amazing. You can do whatever it is you put your mind to.

I am always amazed by those that I meet while running, or just those that I see doing the course that inspire me. You will see kids (yes, I have seen kids under 15!), grandparents, those in wheelchairs (and those without legs), and so many more.

So does it matter that I am over 40? No. Age is just a number. My parents always told me that I could do anything I put my mind to. And I will.

Do you have a bunch of beautiful hot peppers in your garden? Or did you buy a bunch of jalapeno and habanero peppers at your local Farmer’s Market and now you don’t know what to do with them all? I love making salsa, and my Cherry Habanero jelly only takes a handful of peppers, so with all the peppers that we get, I needed something new to do with them.

So, I decided to pickle them! I have ordered pickled jalapenos on my burgers and hot dogs at restaurants, I absolutely love pickled onions, so why not make my own pickled hot pepper deliciousness?

If you have canned before, this is actually pretty easy. If you haven’t, take care to read the instructions before getting started. Be careful with the hot water and hot peppers. You may want to consider wearing gloves when handling the peppers, because there is nothing worse than having an itch or rubbing you eye when you have pepper juice on your hands!

Best Way To Pickle Hot Peppers

With the holidays coming, these pickled hot peppers would also make fantastic gift ideas.  This Pickled Peppers recipe makes about six 8 oz jelly jars, I like using the Ball brand personally.  If you don’t have a canning pot with a jar rack, you can use a large pot, I have done this, it just makes it a bit harder to get yours jars out of the hot water (use tongs!).  I do recommend the jar rack, they are fairly inexpensive on Amazon and it will save plenty of burns on your finger tips!

What Equipment Do I Need to Pickle Hot Peppers?

1. You will need clean, empty jars with a lids.
2. Next, you will need….peppers. Make sure to wash them thoroughly and remove any stems. Once your peppers are clean, you will need to slice them into strips.
3. Then, you will need to make your pickling solution. In a small pot, bring vinegar, water, sugar, and salt to a boil. Stir until the sugar and salt have dissolved. After that, carefully pour the hot mixture over the peppers in the jar. Make sure all of the peppers are covered with liquid.

Finally, screw on the lid tightly and store in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks before eating. Enjoy!

Which are the Best Hot Peppers to Use?

Well, that depends… what kind of heat do you want? Second, what flavor profile are you going for?

If you want something that packs a serious punch, then habanero peppers are the way to go. These little guys pack a lot of heat, so if you’re looking for something to add some serious spice to your life, then these are the peppers for you. Just be careful when handling them – the oils can cause irritation if they come into contact with your skin.

For a more mellow flavor, jalapeño peppers are a great option. They’ll still give your dish some kick, but won’t leave you feeling like your mouth is on fire.

Which Is The Best Type of Vinegar for Making Pickled Peppers?

When it comes to pickling peppers, white vinegar is always a good choice. It has a sharp, acidic flavor that pairs well with the spices typically used in pickling recipes. White vinegar is also less likely to discolor the peppers than other types of vinegar. Plus, it’s very cost effective.

If you want a more mellow flavor, try using apple cider vinegar. It won’t add as much acidity to the peppers, but it will give them a nice sweetness that balances out the spices nicely.

How Do You Choose the Right Container for Making Pickled Peppers?

Pickling peppers is a great way to extend the shelf life of your peppers and enjoy them throughout the year. But how do you choose the right container for making pickled peppers?

There are a few things to consider when choosing a container for pickling peppers. The first is the size of the container. You need to make sure that the container is large enough to fit all of the peppers that you want to pickle. The second thing to consider is the material of the container. Glass is the best material for pickling peppers because it doesn’t react with the vinegar and doesn’t absorb flavors from the peppers. The third thing to consider is whether or not you want to reuse the container. If you plan on reuse, make sure that you choose a food-safe material like glass or stainless steel.

How Long Do You Let the Peppers Pickle?

For most peppers, you’ll want to pickle them for at least two weeks. This will give the peppers time to soften and absorb the vinegar. If you’re using hotter peppers, like habaneros, you may want to let them pickle for longer – up to four weeks.

The level of heat in your peppers will also affect how long you should pickle them. If you want a milder flavor, pickle the peppers for less time. If you prefer a spicy kick, leave them in the vinegar longer.

But, I have enjoyed them after about 4 hours too!

Storing Your Pickled Hot Peppers

Once you’ve pickled your hot peppers, storing them properly is a must to keep them fresh and flavorful. Be sure to refrigerate your peppers in an airtight jar, and they can last for several months.

Pickled peppers are incredibly versatile—add them to tacos, sandwiches, pizzas, or salads for an extra kick. You can even dice them and mix them into sauces, dips, or scrambled eggs to elevate your dishes with a tangy, spicy twist. Ingredients

  • Hot peppers of choice I used 8 Jalapenos, 1 Cayenne, 4 Banana Peppers
  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups white distilled vinegar
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp Dill
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp pepper corns
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp sea salt or 3 tbsp pickling salt

Instructions

  • Wash and sterilize canning jars, lids, and seals.
  • Bring water bath in canning pot to a boil.
  • Wash and prepare all fresh ingredients.
  • Chop the peppers.
  • Dice the garlic.
  • Divide all fresh ingredients and spices into jars evenly.
  • In a medium sauce pan bring water and vinegar to a simmer.
  • Pour hot liquid over fresh ingredients in the jars leaving 1/2 inch head space and wipe the rim of any access liquid.
  • Carefully put lids onto jars.
  • Tighten the seals.
  • Carefully place jars onto the rack in the water bath and lower into boiling water.
  • Place lid on pot and let boil for 10 mins.
  • Carefully remove from water bath and let cool on a dish towel over night.
  • Store in pantry for up to one year.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

* Makes approx. six 8 oz jelly jars.
* You should start to hear “popping” sound while cooling that means the jars are sealing properly
* Store in pantry for up to a year
* Use rubber gloves when cutting hot peppers
You can use any type of peppers you would like in this recipe.  I have used this recipe to make pickled habanero peppers has well.  Habanero peppers are spicier than jalapenos, so just be careful 😉

Still working off the huge can of pumpkin I had in the pantry, I decided a savory pumpkin recipe was in order since I already made two sweet recipes.  My Oatmeal Pumpkin Cookies are my daily snack, and the Pumpkin Roll with Maple Drizzle has been gone for days, so something for dinner was due.

My son is a huge fan of spicy, and I happened to have a hot pepper in my refrigerator so I made a savory and spicy Pumpkin Soup.  If spicy isn’t your thing, leave out the cayenne pepper and the hot pepper, you will still have a deliciously, savory and healthy pumpkin soup. In fact, if you follow Weight Watchers, you will be happy to know that this easy soup recipe is only ONE WW point per serving.

I have made a spicy butternut squash soup before, that we all also loved, but it did require a bit more prep work as you have to cook the squash and puree it.  I use pure canned pumpkin in this recipe, which means you can skip the puree part, which means this recipe is easier 😉

You don’t need many ingredients for this Pumpkin Soup recipe, and I added in celery and carrots for a bit of added texture and vitamins.  So, open your pantry and refrigerator and get started on this Savory Pumpkin Soup today – I will say that both of my kids really liked it, even though they knew it was good for them!  Mom Win!  You know that pumpkin is good for you, right?  It’s really low in fat and is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fiber.  You will also notice that there is no heavy cream in my soup, making this a HEALTHY Pumpkin Soup recipe too.

  • 15 oz pure pumpkin 1 can
  • 28 oz chicken stock or broth 2 cans
  • 1/2 cup diced celery
  • 1/2 cup diced carrots
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1 tablespoon diced hot pepper - jalapeno/habanero/chili
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • Dash of salt and pepper
  • 2 oz low-fat cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup skim milk

Instructions

  • In a medium pot, saute onions and garlic in a splash of olive oil for 2 - 4 minutes
  • Add in carrots, celery, pepper, pumpkin and spices and stir
  • Add broth, bring to boil
  • Reduce heat to a simmer and cover for 15 -20 minutes until vegetables are tender
  • Add the cream cheese and skim milk
  • Stir well, the cream cheese won't melt right away
  • Garnish with sour cream, green onions, or crushed tortilla chips if desired
  • Enjoy!

Weight Watchers Pumpkin Soup

Fall is here and the weather will start to get cooler.  Am I the only one that wants to cuddle with a good book and eat my way through October, November, and December?  There are sooo many tempting eats and treats out there right now, fall flavors have taken over my Facebook and Pinterest feeds.  Not that I am complaining, I love fall flavors, but I still like to eat healthy (well, healthier) as it’s good for me, and shows my kids how important a healthier lifestyle is.

My husband loves apple pie, and when I saw that Crunck Pak Apples was a part of the Produce for Kids campaign that partnered with Publix and Feeding America this fall to raise funds for local food banks located in the communities Publix serves, I grabbed a few bags of Crunch Pak peeled slices and thought about how I could create an apple dessert that was light, delicious, and somewhat easy.  The most important part of any recipe (besides that it’s delicious, of course) is that YOU can make it at home.

I wanted an easy crust, but homemade, that would add a touch of flavor.  I wanted it to be light and airy…with apples, and I needed caramel.  Caramel and apples are a match made in heaven, aren’t they?  So, how do you get all that into a dessert without all the guilt?  I will admit, it took a LOT of brainstorming, but my family and I were very happy with the results.  And I hope that you are too.

Ingredients

Apple filling Ingredients

  • 1 12 oz. bag peeled Crunch Pak apples
  • 4 oz water
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • Dash of lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 8 oz tub of lite whipped topping

Crust Ingredients

  • 20 reduced-fat vanilla wafers
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter cut up

Caramel Drizzle Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Dash of kosher or sea salt
  • 2/3 cup low-fat milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

Apple Filling Instructions

  • Place the bag of peeled Crunch Pak apples into a saucepan.
  • Add the water, sugar and lemon juice and simmer over a low heat for 20-30 minutes or until the apples are tender and just starting to break up.
  • Put the prepared apples into food processor.
  • Add cinnamon and vanilla into the food processor.
  • Blend until smooth, will resemble applesauce.
  • Add the apple mixture to a medium bowl and mix in the whipped topping with spatula until it's blended in.

Crust Instructions

  • While the apples are cooking, prepare the crust.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Line 8-inch square pan with aluminum foil.
  • Combine ingredients in food processor, blend until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Press onto bottom of prepared pan.
  • Bake 15 minutes.
  • When the crust is done in the oven, allow it to cool and pour the apple/whipped topping mixture on top.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

Caramel Drizzle Instructions

  • In a small saucepan, combine light brown sugar, cornstarch and salt.
  • Add milk and cook over medium heat, until desired thickness.
  • Remove from heat, add vanilla and stir to combine.
  • Once the apple bars have been refrigerated for at least 3 - 4 hours, make the caramel drizzle.
  • Add the drizzle to prepared dessert.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Refrigerate unused sauce. If sauce becomes too thick after refrigerating, warm in microwave for 10 - 20 seconds until warm or add additional milk and reheat over low heat in a small saucepan until smooth if necessary.

How To Make Wine Bottle Pumpkins

If you know me, you know that I may have an empty wine bottle or two in my recycling bin at any given time.  You would also know that if I am going to get crafty, it has to be easy.  And that’s exactly how these Wine Bottle Pumpkins were born!  It’s been awhile since I made my Fall Mason Jars, so I figured it was due time for another fun fall craft.  An easy fall craft.

What You Need To Make Upcycled Wine Bottle Pumpkins:

  • Wine Bottles – Empty…drink up first 😉  DON’T dump it out..that would be alcohol abuse!  I took the labels off mine, so that you couldn’t see the outline of the label when painted.
  • Twine – I got mine at the local craft store for about $3.50, and there is enough on the roll to do a bunch more.
  • Hot Glue
  • Orange Spray Paint

How To Make Easy DIY Wine Bottle Pumpkins

To make your Wine Bottle Pumpkins:

  1. Clean your wine bottles and remove the labels.  If they don’t just peel off, soak them in water and use a scrubby to get them off.
  2. When the wine bottles are dry, place your finger in the opening of the wine bottle and spray the entire bottle with the orange spray paint.  Feel free to wear gloves.  You can see some dips on mine, and I don’t mind them, they look like pumpkin ridges 🙂
  3. Place the bottles somewhere to dry, I placed mine on a spare 2 x 4 that my hubby had in the garage.
  4. Once dry – I live in FL and it has been windy lately, so mine where dry in under an hour, you may need more time – warm up the hot glue gun and get your twine ready.
  5. Carefully place a small amount of glue at the base of the neck of the wine bottle, then wrap the twine as far up as you would like.  Every now and then, place another small amount of glue to hold the twine in place.  Once you are happy with the way the twine looks, put a small amount of glue down and secure the end of the twine.  Always be careful when working with hot glue, you don’t want to burn your fingers.
  6. Proudly display your Wine Bottle Pumpkins indoor or outside.

When you think Pumpkin Roll or Pumpkin Log, you probably think of the traditional Pumpkin Cake rolled around a delicious cream cheese filling.  Well, this isn’t that recipe.  I had a package of the sheet crescent dough (that I grabbed on accident because I really wanted the actual crescent rolls) and an open can of pumpkin puree thanks to my Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookies so I decided to make an easy Pumpkin Roll.  I also made an insanely easy maple glaze that I drizzled on top making this Pumpkin Roll sweet, but not too sweet.

How to make Pumpkin Roll using crescent rolls

This Pumpkin Crescent Dough Roll makes for a perfect fall breakfast or dessert.  Did you know that pumpkin is actually really good for us?  Pure pumpkin is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fiber – making it not only the flavor of fall, but a great addition to your diet – so eat up!

This Pumpkin Roll only requires 6 ingredients for the roll and 3 ingredients for the maple glaze.  I had everything required right in my pantry or refrigerator, so hopefully you do too.  Prep time is about 5 minutes, and after about 30 – 40 minutes in the oven, you will have this delicious Pumpkin recipe ready to serve to your family and friends.  If when you make that first cut and you noticed that the dough is still dough-y, toss it back in the oven and be sure to toss that piece of aluminum foil over the top so that the top doesn’t brown too much.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of crescent dough sheet
  • 1/2 cup canned pure pumpkin
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup - be sure to use the real stuff!

Glaze Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1/2-1 tablespoon milk - I used skim milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Spray cookie/baking sheet and set aside.
  • Unroll crescent dough onto clean counter or cutting board.
  • In a small bowl or mixing cup combine the pumpkin, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and maple syrup
  • Spread the pumpkin mix over the crescent dough, be sure to get all the way to the ends.
  • Roll the crescent dough with pumpkin, length-wise.
  • Place the roll on the prepared cookie sheet and bake for 30 - 35 mins until cooked thoroughly.
  • Check the pumpkin roll after about 15 minutes to see if the top is browning too much, if so, loosely place a piece of aluminum foil over the top.
  • When you make that first cut into your delicious pumpkin roll, be sure that the dough is cooked.
  • If not, place it back in the oven for a few minutes with the aluminum foil on top.

Maple Glaze Instructions

  • In a measuring cup add the powdered sugar and maple syrup, slowly add in the milk until the mixture is smooth and "glaze-like"
  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm pumpkin roll
  • Enjoy!

Tis the season of PUMPKIN, and I had a can of pumpkin puree in my pantry just begging to be turned into something yummy. I L-O-V-E cooking with pumpkin—not only is it delicious, it’s also packed with vitamins, fiber, and nutrients while being very low in fat. The only tricky part? My kids don’t always love pumpkin—WHAT?! I know, right? So, I had to get a little creative to make it kid-friendly.

Enter cookies! Seriously, what kid (or adult) can resist a freshly baked cookie? These oatmeal pumpkin cookies are not only delicious but also good for you, packed with fiber, healthy fats, and just the right touch of sweetness to satisfy your cravings.

I originally planned these pumpkin cookies as a healthy breakfast option. But my kids loved them so much, they requested them for dessert too—score! I added a mix of dried cherries, cranberries, and a few chocolate chips (about 1 cup total), but feel free to substitute raisins or leave out the mix-ins entirely. The chocolate chips are just enough to give a little sweetness without overpowering the cookies, and the dried fruit adds a subtle tang that pairs perfectly with pumpkin.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup melted coconut oil – it only takes about 10 seconds in the microwave
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup dried cherries/raisins/dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray.
  • In a medium-size bowl add the coconut oil, eggs, vanilla, pumpkin, and maple syrup.
  • Mix well.
  • Add in the flour, oats, dried cherries/cranberries, chocolate chips, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  • Mix well.
  • Drop rounded tablespoon-sized balls of cookie dough onto the prepared cookie sheet, leaving about an inch between cookies.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and solid.
  • Let cool.
  • Enjoy!

Have you ever heard the phrase “I woke up on the wrong side of the bed“?  Of course you have.  Basically, when you say that, you are saying that your whole day started off bad from the moment you woke up.  From the moment you wake up, you are determining how your day goes, and that’s why your mornings are so important.  That’s why I am going to share simple morning habits that will hopefully start your day off on the right foot and keep you in a good mood all day.  There are tips from how to keep your blinds to your vitamins to how loud to play your music, get ready to have a good day!

  1. Sleep with your blinds open – This gives you the opportunity to wake up naturally to sunlight.
  2. Set your alarm clock 5 minutes ahead of time – I have been doing this for as long as I can remember, I know 5 minutes doesn’t seem like a lot, but that little buffer is always nice in the morning.
  3. Stretch – From your fingers to your toes before you get out of bed.
  4. Think healthy thoughts – Before you grab for your phone and start reading the news and your emails (which are usually never 100% positive), think positive, healthy thoughts. Your mind is a powerful thing, if you THINK you are going to have a happy and productive day…you just may 😉
  5. Make your bed – This helps start your day with order.
  6. Have a glass of water before you have your coffee – Add lemon to it for extra benefits. Hydration is vital to mood and health.
  7. Meditate/Exercise – Either one, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. This will help you clear your mind and get your muscles ready to start the day.
  8. Have a healthy breakfast – May I suggest trying one of my smoothies or this avocado toast??
  9. Take your vitamins – Find the ones that are right for you and your body’s needs and remember to take them.
