We’re Off To See The Wizard – STRAZ Center Tampa

The Wizard of Oz is here in Tampa Bay! Who doesn’t remember watching this as a child? I know I do, and it was magical to be able to see an on stage performance with my mom and kids. We were able to check out the opening night thanks to the STRAZ and the Tampa Bay Bloggers, our opinions of this performance are our own.  The show has dropped into Tampa for a few nights only, and it is not one you want to miss. This new production of The Wizard of Oz is an enchanting adaptation of the all-time classic, it is beautiful to watch on stage. This production was developed from the ever popular MGM screenplay and contains the beloved songs from the Oscar®-winning movie score, all the favorite characters and iconic moments, plus a few surprises along the way, including new songs by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.  You will find a mix of old and new in this performance which I enjoyed.  This is not a perfect remake of the 1939 film, but then again it’s not 1939 anymore.  Because of these changes, I think it made it more enjoyable to all generations.

The live performance is an absolutely amazing show that will leave you singing all the songs that you loved when you were a child, from We’re Off To See The Wizard to Somewhere Over the Rainbow, you will find yourself smiling and singing along the whole time. Think back to The Wicked Witch of the West and to Glenda the Good Witch and relive the moments of the famous ruby slippers. There is no place like home 🙂

As I mentioned above, I did bring both my kids to the show, they are ages 8 and 11 and they both really enjoyed it. My daughter said she LOVED it and my son, said that it was really cool 🙂  And I did see kids of all ages at the show, so it is definitely a fun family event.
