Have you made pie filling at home before?  It’s actually surprisingly easy and it tastes a lot better than anything you will get from a can.  I made homemade apple pie filling last Fall and when I saw that Florida peaches were in season, I knew that I needed to make homemade peach pie filling.

You can make pie filling in under 10 minutes, once you have your peaches peeled and pitted.  I will admit that my favorite part of a peach is that velvety skin, but using the peach skin in your pie filling will make the texture a bit off and add a little sourness to it, so I do recommend taking the skin off.

How to make Peach Pie Filling

Fresh peaches will work perfectly in making your pie filling, but you can also use frozen peaches.

To make homemade peach filling, you only need 7 ingredients and you may have them all at home right now.  Unless you need to head out to your local grocer or farmer’s market to get peaches.

You will need:
Peaches
Water
Fresh Lemon juice
Sugar
Cornstarch
Vanilla extract
Cinnamon

To make this easy peach pie filling you only need about 5 – 8 minutes of cooking time. Pretty easy, right? I told ya!

Once you pie filling is made you can use it for all sorts of delicious desserts, don’t limit yourself to just peach pie. If you do decide to make a pie, this easy recipe makes enough filling for one peach pie.

You can also simply scoop your peach pie filling over your favorite ice cream, vanilla ice cream would be my suggestion, but feel free to get creative. Something with caramel in it would also be delicious.

This easy peach pie filling recipe will have you wondering why you ever bought canned before. With only a few simple ingredients this homemade pie filling is ready in under 10 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups peaches fresh or frozen
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup corn starch
  • tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  • Peel and pit peaches. Roughly chop if desired.
  • In a large skillet, pour in the water, lemon juice, sugar, and cornstarch.
  • Cook at medium-high heat until mixture becomes thick. About 5-7 minutes. Stir regularly to avoid getting clumps.
  • Remove from heat.
  • And add vanilla extract, cinnamon, and peaches.
  • Gently mix everything together.
  • Allow the filling to cool down completely before using in your favorite pie or in cookie bars.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

You can store the pie filling in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.  You can also freeze it for up to a month, so feel free to double or triple the recipe!
This recipe will make enough filling for one 9-inch peach pie or one tray of peach pie bars.
