Soup is one of the ultimate comfort foods. Especially if it’s a hearty soup like this Easy Tomato Tortellini Soup. Tomato soup is already one of my favorite soups, and adding in cheese tortellini is next level delicious.

To make the tomato soup in this recipe you will add garlic, seasonings, chicken broth and some half and half to canned tomato soup to add some pizazz and make it a little creamy. Don’t get me wrong, I love a simple bowl of canned tomato soup as much as the next guy (especially with a grilled cheese!) but adding in the extra ingredients make it even better.

Tomato Tortellini Soup Recipe

This easy soup recipe is ready in about 30 minutes, so it’s perfect for an easy weeknight meal or for lunch. It makes about 6 cups, which was perfect for our family of four with a little bit left over for me for lunch the next day. It’s even better the next day since the tortellini noodles soak up all the deliciousness from the soup.

  • Stove


  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 10 oz cans tomato soup
  • 2 tbsp sun dried tomato paste
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 19 oz cheese tortellini
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese shredded


  • Sauté garlic with the olive oil in large stock pot over medium heat
  • Add tomato soup, tomato paste, half and half, chicken broth, and spices
  • Bring to a simmer
  • Cook tortellini according to package directions
  • Carefully add tortellini into the soup
  • Ladle soup into bowls and top with parmesan cheese
  • Serve with fresh bread if desired
  • Enjoy!


If you can't find sun dried tomato paste you can substitute regular tomato paste.
