Blueberry Banana Oats Smoothie

I have created over 50 different smoothie recipes and shared them here on the blog. I have blended countless vegetables and fruits to create healthy smoothies. But this smoothie recipe is my first one ever with oats. Of course I have seen many smoothie recipes with oats, but I never really thought about adding oats to a smoothie. Until now.

Why add oats to your smoothie

Oats can help lower blood sugar levels, reduce the risk of heart disease and oats can help aid in weight loss. Oats are a great way to add fiber to your smoothie without adding a bunch of calories. Adding oats to your smoothie will also aid it keeping your fuller longer. Having a smoothie made with oats will make for a thicker, more filling and nourishing smoothie.

In this protein shake, I have also added spinach, blueberries, banana and chia seeds.

Why add spinach to a smoothie

Spinach is high in fiber, high in antioxidants and spinach has high iron levels. Spinach is also good for your eyes and has been said to help fight cancer and improve blood pressure health.

Why add banana to your protein shake

Bananas are higher in carbs than other fruits, which means they are great for a quick energy boost. Bananas are high in potassium, can help boost your mood and mental health. Bananas also have anti-inflammatory benefits, which makes they great to enjoy after a workout. Be sure to check out my Aloha Pineapple Protein Shake, it’s one of the readers favorites!

Why add chia seeds to a smoothie

Chia seeds are said to reduce the signs of aging (YES PLEASE!), support a healthy digestive system and chia seeds can aid in building strong bones.

Why add blueberries to your smoothie

Blueberries contain many antioxidants and help lower bad cholesterol, and help lower the risk of heart disease.

Why add yogurt to a protein smoothie

Yogurt helps aid is digestion, yogurt is an excellent source of dairy and dairy is good for your bones. Yogurt is also high in protein so helps you feel full longer.

What is the best blender to use when making smoothies

I have used the Ninja for years.  I like the Ninja Personal Blender for shakes and smoothies because it’s small, easy to store and it works perfectly.  I have a Vitamix too, and yes, it’s incredible, but it’s bigger and a bit bulkier (and more expensive), so when making smoothies, I always grab for my Nutri Ninja.
