8 Time Management Tips To Help You Stay On Track

We all struggle with time management, and we have all said that we wish that there were more hours in the day to get it everything we need to done. Well, we can’t get any more hours added into our day, but we can learn to use the time that we have more effectively and efficiently. Here are some time management tips to help you make the most out of the time that you have. That way you can get back to enjoying life, maybe doing a little relaxing, how about some traveling, or just spending time with your family without worrying about your to-do-list.

Best Time Management Tips

Make a To-Do list and a Completed list

Make a list of all of the items that you need to get done. You can do this weekly or you can make one for each day, or you can do both! If you like the idea of a weekly to-do list, many people find that making it on Sunday gives them time to mentally prepare for the week ahead. When you complete items on your to-do list check them off and add them to your completed list. If you find that items that weren’t scheduled pop up, as inevitably they do add those to your completed list as well. That way at the end of the day or week you can see ALL that you have accomplished.

Prioritize Important Tasks

Prioritize your most important tasks, and make sure that those get completed first. This way you aren’t struggling to complete those high priority tasks at the end of the day when you are tired and ready to be done.

Set a Time Limit for Tasks

When you are making your list of things to do go ahead and set a time limit for each task. This allows you to plan your day more efficiently, and it prevents you from letting your work run over into time that has been designated for other items on your list.

Turn Off Distractions

When it is time to set to work on your task, turn off all other distractions. Don’t get sucked into social media, watching TV or caught up in replying to emails during the time you have scheduled to complete your task. Turn your cell phone on silent, or consider leaving it in another room, another great idea is to close all your computer tabs that aren’t directly related to the task at hand, that way you aren’t constantly looking at new alerts as they pop up.

Learn to say NO

You don’t have to say yes to every offer or event that comes your way. I promise you. You really don’t. This is definitely something I struggle with! But, you have to tell yourself that there will be other opportunities. Only commit your time to events and tasks that are meaningful to you or that benefit your desired goals. If you say yes to everything then you aren’t able to spend time on the things that are most important to you. If you are unsure about a particular offer, simply say “Let me check my schedule and I will let you know”. This will give you some time to determine if the opportunity is worth your time.

Don’t Waste Time Waiting

We all have time that we spend waiting, whether it is waiting for a meeting to start, waiting to pick up your child from an event or school, or waiting to see the doctor. I was literally just complaining to a friend last week about the point of appointment times…I mean why make an appointment when it’s pretty much a given you are going to wait at least 30 minutes. Most of the time I wait an hour. This is valuable time that can be used to reply to emails, return phone calls, schedule appointments, or brainstorm for your next project. Or relax! I really can’t think of anyone that looks forward to sitting in the waiting room of a doctor’s office. Thankfully, we have Amwell. Amwell makes it very easy for us to access a doctor 24/7 anywhere. Yes, anywhere. In your home, at work, sitting in carline, while the kids are ice skating. Anywhere.

Time Management Tips For Families

Are you familiar with Amwell? Oh man! We just downloaded the app last week and it’s already saved me so much time! My son has been feeling a bit “off” the last few days, which is a bit unusual for him. Then he started skipping breakfast and lunch. Now, that is really unusual for him. So, we used the Amwell app and spoke with doctor right from the living room couch! Turns out he had a stomach bug, the urgent care doctor recommended lots of fluids that have vitamins in them (like Gatorade or pedialyte) and rest and if it wasn’t better in another 48 hours we would need a prescription because it was possible he had the flu. So thankful that Amwell is here as a 24/7 resource for our family. I can tell you with 100% honesty that I had no desire to go sit in an after-hours doctor’s office for 3 hours that night. To make some of these happen, buy some products from Michaels Ad this week and save more.

Sleep Well

You aren’t doing yourself, or your poor tired brain, any favors by staying up later to get more done. To work at your best you need a minimum of seven to eight hours of sleep a night, and some people need considerably more. Tired people are easily distracted and tend to procrastinate so if you want to manage your time more effectively make sure that you get plenty of sleep.

Take a Break Between Tasks

Take a break in between tasks on your to-do list. The break doesn’t have to be very long, take a quick walk, go eat a snack, or return a phone call. Different tasks require different types of thinking, and taking a quick break in between them allows your brain to reset so that you can focus on the next task ahead of you.
