Frugal Family Fun – One Last Attempt On Summer Fun!

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

Did you know that the best time to buy summer toys and clothes was AFTER summer?  Yep. That’s when stores clearance out the seasonal stuff to make room for the new line that’s coming in.  Well, I was cruising around Amazon.com looking at the clearance section when I got a great idea for this week’s Family Frugal Fun!

So, just because the summer is coming to a close – how about a fun summer blow-out?  Now, each week I do my best to keep us under $25 and some week’s the cost has been just about nothing, so hopefully you saved up some of that Frugal Family Fun budget for this!

It is the Cuisinart ICE-21 Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream & Sorbet Maker and it’s on clearance for just $49!  Marked down from $90, it has over 250 reviews and it has a 4 1/4 star rating!  So, not only are kids toys on clearance this time of year – goodies for us are too!  And it ships FREE with Amazon prime!
Here are a few of the features:

  • New mixing paddle makes frozen desserts and drinks in 20 minutes
  • Large capacity makes up to 1 1/2 quarts
  • Double insulated freezer bowl eliminates the need for ice
  • Easy lock transparent lid with large spout makes adding ingredients simple and mess free
  • Fully automatic with large ingredient spout for adding ingredients
  • So, this week enjoy the last of your summer days (or the memory of your summer days!) with a cool treat – you and the kids can work together to make something fun and special in the kitchen.  Doesn’t everything taste better when it’s homemade??

I know the last couple week’s our Frugal Adventures have kept us at home, so next week I think we will venture out of the house.  But, I thought this was a great way to show you that there are ways to get the things you want, you just have to wait for that sale and the right time…And NOW is the great time to see if there is any summer items left, and if there are – they all should be GREATLY reduced in price…

Enjoy your ice cream ;) winking

Frugal Family Fun – Family Olympics and a BBQ!

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

We have a nice long weekend coming up and I know some of us BBQ and have friends and family over to relax and well, just have FUN!  I also know that coming up with ideas and games for everyone to do can seem costly.  So, I have a FRUGAL FAMILY FUN IDEA…

    Family Olympics!
Hold an Olympics just for your family (and friends if you are having company over!) . Events can range from walking with an egg on a spoon, soccer in the backyard, swimming laps (if you have a pool), and how about the crab walk, AND no summer fun is complete without the infamous water balloon toss. You can have individual events as well as teams, so that everyone feels like they have a special part!  The cost of these games would be the cost of the eggs and balloons – all the rest are FREE, FAMILY FUN!
You can totally use your imagination on this one — the events are limitless.  In fact – I would LOVE it if you would share an event idea in the comments so that we can all enjoy!

Donation Location Ideas – Tampa Bay Area

This post may contain affiliate links, please read our disclosure policy.

I have had several people ask me about donation location ideas here in the North Tampa area…You have NO IDEA HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME!!! >:D< big hug  Yes, coupons are a wonderful thing to help save our families money – but you know that each week there are items that we can get for cheap, free, or even with overage.  If you need those items – GREAT – if you don’t I always ask that you consider donating them.  There are people everywhere that could use an extra hand every now and then, so why not help when we can?
I think it’s a beautiful concept and I LOVE hearing that others are doing this too.  Honestly, it makes me tear up…If we all just took an extra 10 minutes a week (that couple minutes in the store – that couple minutes to drop off the items) can you imagine the lives we could affect?!

These are two places I go to regularly:
Oasis Pregnancy Center – Land O Lakes – I donate baby coupons (there are so many now available on Coupons.com), baby food, and feminine items here
Suncoast Harvest Food Bank – Land O Lakes – I donate everything else here – food, vitamins, personal care items

    Here are a few more:
    Lutz Pregnancy Center
The Spring – Tampa, FL – Women’s Shelter
Feeding America – Tampa Bay – Food Bank
Kaye Prox Food Bank – Tampa – 33615
    Metropolitan Ministries – Tampa – 33602
Village Presbyterian Church – Carrollwood – drop box by Church Office – Thanks Jenni

Also, ask your local church if they have a member that is in need of any extra help at the moment – Cherylann e-mailed me earlier and that’s where her extra stockpile is going this week.

If you know of others or go to others – PLEASE leave them in the comments section here so that I can add them to this post and so that others can see them too!

    Thank you!

Here is a great dinner and dessert recipes for Easter!

    CHOCOLATE STRAWBERRY TRIFLE

2 small boxes instant chocolate pudding mix, prepared (using 1 1/2 cups milk, instead of two)
chocolate cake, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 quart strawberries, washed and cut in fourths
    1 container of strawberry glaze
    16 oz. Cool Whip
Put a half of the chocolate cake in the bottom of a trifle bowl or a large see-through bowl. Next, spread a third of the pudding on top of cake, followed by half of the strawberries. (Remember to save a few strawberries out for garnish.) Now spread half of the strawberry glaze on top of strawberries in the bowl, followed by a third of Cool Whip. Next, repeat layers in the same order- cake, 1/3 of pudding, strawberries, strawberry glaze, 1/3 of Cool Whip. On top of that, add the remaining 1/3 of chocolate pudding, followed by the remaining 1/3 of Cool Whip. Garnish with strawberries and chocolate shavings, if desired. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
