You all know that I try to cut fat and calories when I can so I made a skinny homemade ranch dressing. I used fat free milk and fat free Greek yogurt as my main ingredients. The lack of fat content did make my salad dressing thinner than what you are probably used to, but it did not lack in flavor. It tasted amazing on my salads, and I didn’t miss the fat and calories 😉

Speaking of salads, how amazing does that salad look? I made a salad with organic spinach and organic spring mix, then I topped it with maple glazed walnuts, fresh strawberries, leftover rotisserie chicken, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, shredded carrots and cheese. The flavor profile from the dill and chives in the low fat ranch dressing was the perfect accompaniment.

And of course, the most important ingredients in this homemade ranch dressing is the milk and Greek yogurt. Milk is an excellent source of calcium, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamins A, D, E, and K and B12. Yogurt is a good source of calcium, potassium, protein, zinc, and vitamins B6 and B12. Making this healthy homemade ranch dressing something you can feel good about serving your family. As I mentioned above, I used skim milk and fat-free Greek yogurt, feel free to substitute whole milk and regular Greek yogurt for a more creamy texture.

Notes

This salad dressing recipe makes 16 oz, I filled two 8 oz. mason jars.  You can store your dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.
The flavors will intensify as the homemade salad dressing is in the refrigerator, it is delicious right away, but if you can leave it in the refrigerator for a few hours or even over night before use it will taste even better.
Shake well before each use to re-mix the herbs and lemon.
I used skim milk and fat free greek yogurt, if you decide to do the same, it will make your homemade ranch dressing thinner. However, just because it’s thinner in consistency it doesn’t mean it is lacking in flavor! We use this recipe regularly and it’s even kid-approved.
