Experience the classic tale of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory live! This incredible, wonky performance will be loved by the whole family. While I was able to attend this performance at the Straz Center at no cost, all opinions are 100% my own.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Sweet Musical Review

I know Charlie! Well, kinda. I first saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Broadway in New York City and my son’s friend was playing Charlie. I was able to take my mom on that trip and being able to see the show and actually know one of the actor’s was pretty surreal.

I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when I was a child (the original) and watched it again when Johnny Depp starred as Willy Wonka in 2005.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is definitely an unique movie, it plays on the impossible to help teach life lessons. I think the bit of fun and funky, like bubble gum turning kids into blueberries, keep you watching. I mean, who doesn’t want to know what happens next?! But, the idea behind it is still that lesson…the lesson that I hope my kids pick up on 😉 And not the lesson that there could be gold in chocolate…if that were the case I would have found it by now.

The lesson that teaches you to respect your elders, the lesson that teaches you to not be greedy, the lesson that teaches you to be grateful.  Life is about appreciating what you have and those around you.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Broadway Review

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a world of pure imagination. Now watching the film(s) is a completely different experience from seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory live. The lessons are still there, the parts from the movie that you grew up loving are there, but you now get to be a part of it. You are invited into the small, yet quaint house where Charlie Bucket and his family live. You can actually see Charlie Bucket find that Golden Ticket. You watch as the stage transforms to the mysterious chocolate factory. You get to see the Oompa-Loompas! You actually get to witness the childhood story that we all grew up loving.

While Roald Dahl’s amazing tale is in Tampa, you will enjoy songs from the original film, including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” alongside a toe-tapping and ear-tickling new score from the songwriters of Hairspray.

Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Review

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is an everlasting gobstopper…I mean showstopper 😉  And I love that I was able to see it in New York and here in Tampa.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is performing here in Tampa through October 13th, so don’t miss your chance at seeing this sweet show.
