Easy Baked Cheese Straws with Cilantro Dipping Sauce
Looking for a deliciously easy appetizer recipe? Well, I have it for you. These baked cheese straws only need 5 basic ingredients and about 10 minutes of prep time. Making this easy cheese straw appetizer the perfect recipe to include for your holiday parties…and beyond.
Think of a grown-up version of cheez-its. And then the dipping sauce really makes these cheese straws over the top.
To make these baked cheese straws you will need cheese (the star of the show, of course), butter, flour, a pinch of salt and some red pepper flakes. We like most recipes with a touch of “heat”, and these cheese straws are no different. You can reduce the amount of red pepper flakes if you would like, or leave them out all together, but they do add a nice layer of flavor.
If you leave out the red pepper flakes from this easy cheese straws recipe, consider adding in garlic or onion powder, or even your favorite seasoning salt.
You will be making a dough out of cheese, butter and flour, then rolling out the dough, then cutting the dough into “straws”. Since you are the one making them, you can make the cheese straws short, long, twisted, or even in the shape of candy canes!
After your cheese straws are shaped, you simply bake them for 20 minutes.
While your cheese straws are baking, whip up your homemade cilantro and lemon dipping sauce. The dipping sauce is simply nonfat plain Greek yogurt, fresh cilantro, fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper. The simple flavors are the perfect accompaniment to the baked cheesy deliciousness of your homemade cheese straws.
