What Makes This Citrus Hummus So Good

I actually made this recipe one afternoon when I had chickpeas hanging out in the pantry and a bag of tangerines on the counter. I wasn’t sure how they’d work together, but wow, the combo was really good! The natural sweetness of the tangerine brightens everything, while the jalapeño adds just enough kick to keep things interesting without taking over.

This hummus is as versatile as it is flavorful. It’s perfect for dipping fresh veggies and crackers, spreading on sandwiches, scooping over grain bowls, or even using as a fun twist on pizza night. It feels a little gourmet, but it couldn’t be easier to make.

Health Benefits in Every Bite

Another reason I love this recipe? It’s as nourishing as it is delicious.

  • Chickpeas are a plant-based protein powerhouse with plenty of fiber to keep you satisfied.
  • Tangerines are packed with vitamin C and antioxidants to support your immune system (and deliver that fresh citrus flavor).
  • Garlic & Jalapeño bring the flavor! Plus, both bring immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory benefits, with jalapeño’s capsaicin adding a gentle metabolism boost.
  • Tahini is that creamy sesame goodness that adds minerals and healthy fats.
  • Heart-healthy monounsaturated fats are in the olive oil that round out the dip.

This hummus isn’t just a snack, it’s a little boost of nutrition in every scoop!

Serving Ideas & Fun Variations

Want to put your own spin on it? Try these ideas:

  • Turn up the heat: Leave the jalapeño seeds in or add a pinch of cayenne.
  • Try a new citrus: Swap in orange, satsuma, or even grapefruit for a different twist.
  • Top it off: Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds or finish with a swirl of olive oil before serving.

And don’t just think of it as a dip! This hummus is amazing on wraps, as a spread on toast, or as a fun base on homemade pizza.

This Spicy Tangerine Hummus is proof that healthy snacks can be anything but boring. With its creamy texture, sweet citrus notes, and subtle heat, it’s the kind of recipe that you’ll want to make again and again. Whether you’re making it for family, friends, or just to keep in the fridge for a quick bite, this hummus will quickly become a favorite. So grab those chickpeas and tangerines, fire up the food processor, and enjoy a fresh, flavorful dip that’s as fun to make as it is to eat.
