Have you made a dump cake before? I know lots of people like dump cakes because they are easy to make and so versatile. But I have never made a dump cake until this past weekend. And in all honesty, my daughter did most of the work. She loves to bake, especially cakes, and she has been wanting to make something “Fall”, so I suggested she try her hand at a dump cake. She did let me help some 😉 It was fun to cook with her and do a little baking experiment.

This Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Dump Cake is really easy to make and has all the flavors of Fall baked in. Well, chocolate may not be a “Fall Flavor” per se, but I say that chocolate is a flavor for every season.

Tastiest Pumpkin Chocolate Dump Cake

You bake this Pumpkin Chocolate Dump Cake for about 45 minutes, and the house smells so good while it’s baking. We served ours right out of the oven with vanilla ice cream. We put the leftover dump cake into the refrigerator and had it again the following night and we all decided that we liked it cold better. Don’t get me wrong, we loved it warm, but when it was cold the flavors seemed to be more pronounced. We still served it with ice cream 😉

  • 1 15 oz can pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 10 oz can evaporated milk - I used fat free
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup graham cracker crumbs
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips - I used semi-sweet
  • 1 stick butter - melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Spray 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray
  • In a large bowl add the pumpkin, milk, brown sugar, eggs, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon and mix well
  • Pour the pumpkin mixture in baking dish
  • Sprinkle the vanilla cake mix over the top
  • Sprinkle on the graham cracker crumbs
  • Sprinkle on the chocolate chips
  • Drizzle the butter over the top
  • Bake for 45 - 50 minutes or until edges are golden brown
  • Allow to cook for 5 - 10 mintues before serving. If you can wait that long!
  • Enjoy!

Notes

To make the graham cracker crumbs, I put about 7 graham crackers in a ziploc bag and smashed them with the back of a spoon.
We served ours with vanilla ice cream.
Refrigerate leftovers.  I recommend trying it cold too!  We actually liked it better cold than warm.  Don't get me wrong, we loved it warm, but we were pleasantly surprised that it was even better cold.
