I am sure you have seen everything from a traditional Bloody Mary made with tomato juice, spices and vodka to Bloody Marys served with a hamburger on top of the glass. There’s no need to stop with just a Bloody Mary. The original cocktail is a great jumping-off point for other drinks.
Not that there’s anything wrong with the classic Bloody Mary, of course. It’s one of the great classic drinks of the 20th century. But with variations like these, it’s almost impossible not to experiment! And with National Bloody Mary Day coming up on January 1st, I figured it was the perfect time to share some of the most popular Bloody Mary Variations. Why is January 1st National Bloody Mary Day, well it is said that the Bloody Mary is one of the best hangover cures, so if you had one to many cocktails celebrating on New Years Eve, having a Bloody Mary is supposed to help.

How To Make A Bloody Maria
1 1/2 oz. tequila
4 oz. tomato juice
juice of 1/2 lime
4 dashes Cholula*
2 dashes Worcestershire sauce
pinch of salt
pinch of pepper
Pinch of horseradish
Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a tall glass and garnish with a celery stick.
*Cholula Hot Sauce is a pepper sauce made in Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico – also the birthplace of tequila. Its taste is different and distinctive from the traditional tabasco sauce.
How To Make A Bloody Bull
2 oz. vodka
2 oz. tomato juice
2 oz. beef bouillon
6 dashes tabasco sauce
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
dash of black pepper
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pour over ice in a tall glass.
How To Make A Danish Mary
1 1/2 oz. Aquavit
2 oz. tomato juice
6 dashes tabasco sauce
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. grated onion
Combine all six ingredients and mix well. Pour over ice in a tall glass and garnish with a sprig of fresh dill.
How To Make A Highland Mary
1 1/2 oz. Scotch
2 oz. tomato juice
6 dashes tabasco sauce
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. grated onion
dash of black pepper
Combine all ingredients, mix well, and pour over ice in a tall glass. Garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary, crushed slightly.
How To Make A Borscht Mary (or Russian Mary)
2 oz. vodka
2 oz. tomato juice
2 tbsp. plain yogurt
6 dashes tabasco sauce
1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1 tsp grated onion
dash of black pepper
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pour over ice in a tall glass and serve garnished with a sprig of parsley.
How To Make A Bloody Mariner
2 oz. vodka
2 oz. tomato juice
2 oz. clam juice
6 dashes tabasco sauce
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
dash of black pepper
Combine all ingredients, mixing well. Pour over ice in a tall glass and garnish with a celery stalk.
How To Make A Red Snapper
1 1/2 oz. gin
4 oz. tomato juice
of 1/2 lemon
dash of Worcestershire sauce
2-3 dashes tabasco sauce
Combine all ingredients and mix well, pour over ice in a tall glass. Serve garnished with a celery stalk and a lime wedge.
How To Make A Irish Bloody Mary
1 1/4 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream
6 oz. tomato juice
of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
4-5 dashes tabasco sauce
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pour into a tall glass over ice and garnish with a pickle spear. Optional: rim the glass with celery salt.
How To Make A Classic Bloody Mary
2 oz. vodka
4 drops Worcestershire sauce
2 drops tabasco sauce
dash of horseradish
dash of lime juice
pinch of salt and pepper
tomato juice
Combine all ingredients except the tomato juice in an old-fashioned glass half-filled with ice cubes and stir well. Add tomato juice to taste. Stir again and serve.
How To Make A Pumpkin Mary
1/2 cup tomato juice
3 tbsp unfiltered apple cider or juice
1 oz. vodka
1 1/2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp. bread & butter pickle juice
1/2 tsp. freshly grated ginger
1/2 tsp. hot sauce (such as Cholula), depending on desired level of heat
1/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
pinch kosher salt
pinch freshly ground black pepper
Combine all ingredients into highball glasses filled with ice, stir well. Add garnishes of your choice.
