How To Make Mason Jar Fall Crafts

Candy Corn, Mummies & More

Fall is upon us and it’s time to get the house ready! And I am actually very excited to share that I actually got crafty! If you know me, I am not always successful at being super crafty. Not that I don’t try, it’s just something I have never been able to do as some folks. SO, when I, yes…ME, made these adorable Fall Mason Jars you can imagine the amount of pictures I was texting to family and friends. I was a tad proud of myself 😉

I love these DIY Fall Mason Jars for a few reasons:

  1. They are very inexpensive to make. I got 12 jars at Target for under $9 and paint was about $3-$4 each on Amazon
  2. They were EASY to make! You will be done in just a few minutes. I promise you, if I can make them…YOU CAN TOO!
  3. If you feel like you “messed up”, you can just repaint it!
  4. They are adorable. I made several designs for myself and gave some to the neighbors for a Fall smile.

What You Need For Your Fall Mason Jars:

  • Paint – I bought white, orange, yellow, black and green (I plan on using the white and green again for Christmas) *I do recommend doing all your painting OUTSIDE.  You will see below that I managed to graffiti all over my grass 🙂
  • Mason Jars

As you can see, I made several varieties, Pumpkin, Frankenstein, Mummy, Orange and Candy Corn. Candy Corn was the favorite among friends and family, and to be honest, it’s mine too…I think you can easily leave that one and the orange one out all season!  We put beautiful Fall flowers in ours.

How You Make a Candy Corn Mason Jar:

Spray the entire jar white – shake the can before use. I put my hand in the jar to hold it up, you will get a messy hand, but I found it the easiest way. You can easily clean your hands with Mineral Spirits (you probably have some in your garage already).

Spray an orange line in the middle – it doesn’t have to be perfect, and don’t worry if it goes lower than you want it too, yellow spray paint will cover it

Spray the bottom part of the jar yellow

Allow to dry on a piece of cardboard

I will be honest with you, I did NOT let the colors dry before spraying on the next one (I am too impatient!) and I think they turned out just fine 🙂

How to make a Frankenstein Mason Jar:

  • Spray the entire mason jar green
  • Spray the top of the jar black
  • Allow to dry on a piece of cardboard
  • You can also draw on a face with a Sharpie once dry, but since drawing is not a skill I possess either, I opted to not do that

How to make a Pumpkin Mason Jar:

  • Spray the entire mason jar orange
  • Spray the top of the jar green
  • Allow to dry on a piece of cardboard
  • You can use a stencil and a sharpie to draw on a face if you desire. *I did make a stencil out of cardboard and tried to spray paint on a face with the black paint, it did not work out for me, the paint either ran or misted too wide. It would definitely be easier to draw on a face in my opinion.

Mummy Mason Jars

How to make a Mummy Mason Jar:

  • Spray the entire mason jar black
  • Once the jar is dry, wrap it in white ribbon (I used plain gift wrapping ribbon). Use hot glue or super glue to adhere the ends to the jar
  • Glue on googly eyes if desired

  1. These are all super cute! My only critique would be to use regular ribbon instead of the curling ribbon- too shiny.

  2. These are aweosme ideas and inexpensive too. I saved my marinara and jelly jars and painted them. I have done a few candy corn jars myself and now my mother in law would like to do this as well. Thank you for sharing.

  3. Love these painted Mason Jars! I have some jars I’ve been saving, didn’t know what for… now I know! LOL I’ll be busy tomorrow! Thanks!!!

  4. These look GREAT! We will be making the candy corn ones. Thank you so much for the step by step instruction.

  5. I love the mummy & candy corn jars! Mason jar crafts & gifts are all the rage this year. Thanks for the how-to. 🙂
