DIY Linen Spray with Essential Oils

Have you ever noticed that certain smells can change your mood or transport you to another place? When I smell a turkey baking I can close my eyes and be in my grandma’s little kitchen back in Michigan on Thanksgiving day. When I smell pine or evergreen I reminisce about the annual Christmas Tree hunt with my family. Chamomile will almost instantly relax me. Lilies of the Valley remind me of my grandma, she had them growing all over her yard and in the house so that scent makes me smile. At the beach I can smell salt in the air and I can feel the waves wash over me.

And when I walk into my bedroom, I want to be relaxed, I want to smell the freshness in the air. I have tried air fresheners, but the scents are either too strong or they don’t last. Plus, they can be expensive. So, why not make the perfect scent for you. The scent that takes you to your happy place, your place of relaxation and peace, the scent that helps you get a good night’s sleep when you slide under your soft sheets and finally close your eyes.

Homemade Linen Spray with Essential Oils

That’s exactly what I did, I made my own Linen Spray with Essential Oils and I love it! The best part is that I can change the scent whenever I want too, when you use Essential Oils, your Linen Spray is completely customizable to YOU. Chamomile relax you? Add it! Love lavender? Add it! I will be sharing how I made my Linen Spray, feel free to use the exact recipe or make your own. You will see that I added witch hazel to mine, which seems like a weird addition, but it actually helps with helps the essential oils and water to mix, it does NOT make your spray smell like witch hazel. You can use rubbing alcohol, witch hazel, vodka, or even pure vanilla extract.

Here’s how to make your own homemade Linen Spray:

8 oz Spray Bottle – I found mine in the dollar section at several stores
3/4 cup water – I just used tab water
2 tablespoons witch hazel
10 drops of Sleep Ease Essential Oil
5 drop of Lavender Essential Oil

I put everything into a 1 cup measuring cup so that it was easier to pour into the spray bottle. Once you have everything in your bottle, give it a shake and spray on your linens. I recommend storing your DIY Linen Spray/Air Freshener in a cool dry place.

  1. Thank you for this DIY! I’ve seen linen sprays that cost more money than I would spend on something like that. Your recipe looks like it would cost pennies!

  2. Why I can’t think of making my own spray shows just how non-creative I am! But I like my bed smelling good and now I’m just going to buy a bottle and some oil because I always have witch hazel around! I’m glad I found this article, thanks!!

  3. Awesome, you’re right this would make a great gift. Easy and not expensive to make. Thanks for the great gift idea.
